Typhoon Nuri
I must say the HK meteorologists are pretty accurate - before 8am they announced Typhoon signal 8 - meaning all schools, offices will be closed. People stock up on food, and stay home. I was already all dressed and ready for work and Typhoon Nuri is well on her way to HK (why do typhoons have female names?)
What the heck. I want to feel the wind. :)
And indeed I felt it. The scaffolding across the street shook slightly. Plastic bags and rubbish twirled like mini tornadoes and my hair was all over the place. Interestingly, the ladies were all in pants and there were hardly any cars on the streets (since insurance does not cover moving vehicles during typhoons).
Armed with my pink Giordano brolly bought last night, I made my way to the office. :D
Oh, last night too, I thought I had lost my super girly blue umbrella at TsuiWah after dinner. Only realised it when having GuiLingGao with kain, which must have been an hour or so later. My first thought was, it couldn't be there any more, someone must have taken my pretty umbrella. His thought was, no harm going back to take a look. And I'm SO happy we did.
失而复得的快乐 is velly wonderful.

the Manila mania continues
1) We were early and did not check in until 2pm. When we eventually did, it turned out to be a Junior suite - with single beds placed next to each other. =.= We suspect they didn't understand when we said we wanted a two-bedroom suite. Heng the latter is still available, though it's on a smoking floor.
2) So of course, we were late for the first interview at 2pm. To add to the drama, the company had shifted office and the address on their website is not updated - so we were at the wrong location!
3) We were SO tired after the drama on Wed morning that we didn't explore the city at night - plus, it rained. =.=
4) Thursday night dinner was buffet - Filipino style and Jap and Western all in one. I was so FULL I had indigestion and I puked at 630 am the following morning. It was a relief to be rid of the bloatedness but it was horrible puke!! There was simply too much food to eat!!!
5) We had planned to club on Thursday night. Checked with concierge what's the nearest happening club in Ortigas City, was told it was Alchemy.
We must have asked at least 20 taxi drivers outside the hotel if they knew how to get to the Alchemy on Julias Vergas Street. None of them knew.
We hopped into a cab - the driver seemed to know, but we drove around in circles around the same area - until we stopped him, paid, and got off.
How can the local taxi drivers not know this happening club???
So, we flagged down a couple more taxis, walked around the area, and finally met our saviour..... who drove us to the nearby police post.
Of course, the police would know... their favourite huants to crack down junkies.
So we were happily on our way! Hip hop music blasting in the taxi, driver was damn happy he found us the place, and we can't wait to shake our booties!
But... the moment we got off the taxi, we knew something else was wrong. There was no blasting music or drunken bodies outside the club. Time check = past midnight.
"Hey, Alchemy's closed ...." This dude called out, and took our cab and left.
What the....
Totally unsatisfied, we headed to whichever bar which is still opened at this hour to have a couple of drinks before knocking out at the hotel.
6) And as if we hadn't learnt our lesson for being early at the airport, we just made it in time for the flight bound for HK.
Well, amongst all the drama, there're some good and extremely enjoyable moments of course.
1) the three amigos at the buffet restaurant - you'll see what i mean when you view the video clip.
2) Short day tour to Intramuros - Manila's walled city, with pages of history on those walls, holes in walls made by canon bombs and how strong life is.
3) Interesting Manila food and lovely Filipino friends - Charlotte, Sonny, the three amigos and 78 yr old taxi driver Nick!!
Am starting to dream of a holiday in one of the Filippino islands, sipping pineapple juice, listening to Spanish tunes, already!

All this while on the train, images of how we (Mr Goh, Wx & Jz) almost missed our flight in HK last dec flashed. We had missed the check in timing, BUT luckily, the flight was delayed... and Mr Goh's "C'mon, you gotta get us on this flight!" somewhat helped...
I CANNOT miss this flight - the next one is at 2pm and I would have missed my scheduled interview at ... hurr 2pm.
0835
THAT I HAVE TO THROW AWAY THE LIQUIDS IN MY LUGGAGE COS THE CHECK IN GATE IS CLOSED!
my toiletries! my entire facial cleansing regime! Poof!!!! They are expensive shit! and I only started using one 2 weeks ago! It's not even utilised for more than 10%!!
What would you do, tell me, what would you do...
0840
Officer: (flipping my passport)- Is this REALLY you?
FAINT - Look very different MEH?Dramamama: (sweetest smile) Yes, and sorry, but could you hurry up cos I'm rushing for my flight (again, sweetest smile)
Officer: Sure, I'm trying to find your date of entry to HK stamp. So.. your surname is LUO?
Dramamama: =_=
0850
CX lady staff brought me to the line for flight crew to scan luggage and walk through the detector thingy.
I'm SO GRATEFUL TO THIS LADY! She looked more worried and anxious than me! She's been such a GREAT help!
Officer: I'm sorry, but all these items are more than 100ml and you cannot take them on board.
Dramamama: (pained look) but these are all very expensive.... can I pls keep.. this .. this .. and this... (tries very hard to imitate puss in Shrek)
Officer throws back one tube which is 125g. ^ ^ but took out all the rest. BAH.

Tired beee and thirsty bee!
Did my laundry in between. And some unpacking and packing.
And replied work emails - people in Vietnam don't sleep at normal hours!
So now, I have 4 hours of sleep ahead before i rush to the airport.
Thank goodness for online check in. =)
Met Fion for lunch at Wanchai today. Don't know what's with my luck and my encounters with insects today. When I got to the office, I had three THUMB size mosquito bites on my legs.
During lunch, my salad was attacked by a fruit fly thingy.
And when my 'dong leng cha' was served, this thirsty bee happily took the first sip.

Tom has a better picture of the bee, sticking out its built-in 'straw', sucking the liquid. My picture is when it started swimming around.
The outrageous thing is... even after all the commotion i created, and signalled for the waitress to come by... the drink and the bee were left unattended!
The waitresses asked silly questions like, 'Should I get another glass of ice tea for you?' 'Would you like a new glass?'
HELL YEAH!
and when we told them to remove it, she said, 'what if it starts flying and stings me?'
holy shit. So we did this to the drowning bee.

The table of MALE diners next to us were prepared to fend off the bee with their fork and knives. Goodness.
Where has my knight in shining armour gone?
Normally, under such circumstances - food contamination by fruit fly and bee, the restaurant manager should at least come and apologise (and offer to settle lunch for me)... but no... no one came forward to say anything - other than to present the bill.
Such is the service standard in HK? In any case, if you want a buzz-free meal in wanchai, avoid a certain Bistro located at CWB Center.

Typhoon Pabuk - Signal 8
MTR gantries were monitored to prevent overcrowding.
Concerts and public events were cancelled across the territory. I want to go Jacky's concert..... =_=
Miss Xie told me she saw two perfectly arched rainbows in Miyazaki.
After the storm, things will return to normal.
And you will get the rainbows, if the sun does shine.

Crash Crashed Crashing Crushed
And tonight, it CRASHED.
I saw it CRASHING in my own hands, but there was nothing I can do.
All the special dates/appointments on the calendar is gone. All the contacts are gone. My schedule is a clean sheet now and I am CRUSHED.
I'm the kind who needs to have everything organised. I need a plan. I need to know what's going to happen in the next few hours or days. I get jit-jit when things are not going according to schedule.
there are always lessons i never learn. always back up back up back up. even if it's just a tiny pda. =_=

retro mod and the chubby who saved my life
I wasn't really in the mood for food since I just survived a death defying stunt a couple of hours ago. See, I was walking to the HSBC bank and on my way back to the office, I slipped and was going to fall and break my back....
but Chubby saved me.
Chubby is my hp really.
I was holding it in my left hand and while I was slipping, I used it break my fall and somehow managed to bounce back miraculously. No butt touching the ground, no undies showing. I survived a back break. Couldn't imagine what would happen if I really did fall. Ground was super wet from the rain and I was wearing a dress!!
but Chubby was severely disfigured. Another 6 months before I'll say goodbye to this loyal friend. I should treat it with more care from now onwards.
Anyways, the moment Mr Goh met me, he couldn't stop laughing. Cos he said I looked like I walked out from the 1980s.

I need a haircut!

I feel the EARTH MOVE under my skin...
EARTH
MOVE
UNDER
MY
SKIN
I feel the world tumbling down, tumbling down...."
Well, aptly put by this song, I did feel the earth move this afternoon....
Was at client's office with boss doing a presentation when towards the end of the meeting, the long table starts to sway left and right. I felt dizzy for a second. Then the lamps start to sway too, and almost Jurassic Park style, the cup of tea starts to ripple.....
I stared across the meeting table, look up down left right, and felt the room turning topsy-turvy. Exchanged glances with a few of the clients... and one of them decided to leave the room and find out what's happening... ALL this time, boss was still giving his presentation speech, looking at the screen... totally oblivious to what has just happened....
until girl comes in, "Sorry guys, WE'VE GOT TO EVACUATE THE BUILDING!!"
So we packed our stuff, and evacuated the building in an orderly manner... no pushing, shoving people down the staircase, jumping off the building, screaming, madly calling people on the phone to say last goodbyes and what not...
Some people even took the lift... =_=
Everyone gathered opposite the building and just kept staring at it, wondering if it'd collapse anytime soon....
but news travel TOO DAMN FAST. someone already said it's an earthquake in indonesia.
And I thought: wow, must be a helluva earthquake...
It's scary.... the few seconds/minutes of tremors we felt would be magnified tens of thousands of times in indonesia.
We could still take our time to slowly walk out of the building, what about the people in western indonesia? News has it that hundreds of buildings were flattened, the quake aftershock killing at least 30 with a magnitude of 6.3.
Life continues for us. Work continues.
We settled in at Venezia,
where boss finished the remaining of his presentation,
while I finished my cup of frothy cuppucino.

The Teo family... and the silly Goh
Teo Bay Beow, Teo ToTo, Teo Tao Beow, Teo .. teo.. teo...
Hee Hee.
The Toto numbers are out : 5, 6, 16, 17, 28, 35 and additional number 14.
My mum bought those lucky new year pack ang bao TOto and 4D, one for each of us... and when she tried to match the numbers for all of us... she exclaimed! WAH! three slips combined got 5 numbers correct wor! =_=
but one slip itself has just one or two numbers correct, which doesn't win us any money at all....
oh well... better luck next year!! HUAT AH!
I read/heard somewhere that PIGS this year should go donate blood during CNY.. supposedly good for luck or something like that. I told Mr Goh a few days ago that I want to go donate blood tmr.... and want him to go along with me....
but he hor, doesn't want to donate blood leh!! scared of needle or what....
then i remembered he told me he is slightly anemic. so ok lor, plan is.. i will go donate.. and he shall be there to be my pom pom boy...
the last time i donated blood was years ago! once in JC, once in uni, once when started working. and once, the nurse poked the needle into my arm THREE TIMES, before getting the right vein.
anyway, the plan is to go to HSA BloodBank tmr... until..... my period came.
I ask Mr Goh, "dunno if I still can donate blood or not... will i be losing too much blood?"
then you know what he said?!?!
Can... Can donate blood... and NO NEED NEEDLE SOME MORE!!
YAH... i'll bite through his veins with my metal braced teeth and draw his blood out.

Attack of the crow (s)
There I was, this harmless, unarmed girl, walking along the pavement at a leisurely pace (read: non-threatening at all), eating my Char Siew Bao, enjoying the morning breeze.... soaking in the warm sunshine... thinking how wonderful today will be...
WHEN A BIG BLACK BUGGER CROW USED ITS CLAWS TO GRAB MY HAIR

Momentarily stunned, I could not react at all. I felt a heavy thud on my tiny head for a split second.
First thought: Bird shit arh!!
Then I saw the black creature... taking off, extending its wings.
Then second thought: BAD LUCK!!!

I kept touching my head after that, ruffling through my hair (or what's left of it).
I told Mr Goh and he asked me if i was injured. Hm, not really, but I was shakened. He then told me to Google Crow attack and see how lucky I am. This is what I found:
1) Description of the crow: Large, black, winged bullies with a chilling caw and a look-you-in-the-face, beady-eyed arrogance.
2) In Japan: That still leaves them with plenty of work; there have been hundreds of reports of birds swooping down on people during the spring nesting season. Crows usually attack from behind, kicking or pecking at the victim's head. (which was similar to what happened to me...these sneaky fellas)
3) and in Singapore: Still a nuisance despite on-going cull programme! by Tanny Chia , CNA
The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore had more than 23,000 crows shot and 2,000 nests destroyed last year. But despite this, the birds are apparently still a nuisance.
One resident was recently attacked by some crows. They are incessant noise-makers and messy scavengers and are also not adverse to stealing to meet their housing needs. Small wonder that crows continue to be a source of irritation for some in housing estates.
But to a Tampines resident, these birds pose a bigger threat: he was attacked by them on three occasions. The latest happened while crossing under some trees along Tampines Avenue 1. "When I was about to cross the road to the other side, I felt a strong swoop over my head. I looked up and I saw a crow, about to attack me. And tis' not the first time - I've two other bad experiences before in the Tampines area," said Yap Chew Leong.
He believes that crows attack him because he dislikes them. Sharing his belief is Filipino Nora Farnco, who had similar experiences.
"They fly over our heads, and then attack with their claws. And then they go into the trees. And then, I walk into the garden, if I turn back, the same they attack. I think they attacking me because they notice me - I drove them away," said Nora Farnco, a Filipino maid.
Are these neighbourhood residents really a danger? A Nature Society member says 'no'. According to him, the birds could have been only protecting their nests from perceived danger. He is also uncertain as to whether crows can recognise faces. (I'll have to disguise myself if they do)
"I can't confirm this fact that they can recognise people. But reports from the Singapore Gun Club has said that they have to change their crew and change their cars in order to get near to shoot them. Probably this is one of the best illustrations to say that crows are highly intelligent," said Sutari Supari, Nature Society (Singapore) Bird Group.
Intelligent perhaps but to many this is not a plus point. To control their populations, Tampines Town Council uses crow traps and culling continues. But the ENV says the solution lies in denying crows their food source, and residents can do their part by ensuring that refuse is properly bagged and disposed of.

4) FAQs about crows:
What do crows eat? Everything (including human hair meh?!)
How smart are crows? smarter than many undergraduates, but probably not as smart as ravens
How many different calls do crows make? lots, but most of them still sound like "caw" (i've realised a new found meaning for caw-peh caw-bu)
Do crows make good pets? YES, but they're very illegal. (WHAT?!?!)

Comments from family & friends after I related incident:
I: Hey.. better be safe today. ride carefully. I got clawed by a crow this morning...
Bro: Wah Lew, i got pigeon shit on my bike lor.....
I: Faint. =_=
Sis: How come claw you? Your head got food ah?
I: ... apparently, crows can recognise people's faces... I'm going to take another route to the bus stop tmr
Sis: ok, be careful tomorrow. maybe u can try dressing up as mama
I: Faint twice.
Mr. Goh: Are you injured? Why you never use your bodycombat skills on the crow?
I: Bodycombat never teach me to 'head' crows... (told Goh about pigeon shit on bro's bike)
Mr. Goh: Hahaha... you better check with your mother... (and see how she's doing)
I: Faint (3rd time)
Related it to HR...
HR: The stupid crow is just jealous that your tresses are blacker!
I: :D This makes the most sense!
and Happy Birthday HR! the tulips are for you!

blessing in disguise
I watched him squirm in pain as he dripped the ever potent dettol and Herbal Oil aka Qing Cao You onto the wounds. I couldn't help but laughed. Yeah, i know it's really mean, but hey, it's really hilarious. A macho man squirming in pain. He laughed too. :)
Mr goh said it's actually a blessing in disguise, to have your first road accident and escaped with minor scratches. I couldn't agree more. At least now i'm certain my bro will be more careful on the roads, will know how it worries my mum whenever he puts on that helmet and vroom-vrooms on his Phantom.
heard some bad news recently though, a school friend met with an accident and wasn't that fortunate. i can just imagine how devastating it is to her family.
Is everything fated to be?

Fun-Filled Fridayyyyy....
had to get to office early cos boss will be having a conference call in the morning and i'm not sure if he knows how to operate the 3-way phone conferencing function on the phone... but turned out that the other associate is dialling from home, so that's not a problem...
and I really wanted to do work today. 100% concentration, so i can finish up the report asap. which is a good thing, cos halfway while I was working, boss came round and asked to use my comp to skype, cos he's lost his skype sign in and password, will have to use my account to dial in to other shareholders. phew, heng don't have any non-work related windows opened on my comp. HeeeH.
have got a 2pm meeting in the afternoon with boss and client at harbour front centre. so i head out for lunch with mae first while boss was still having conference call. and he mentioned he'll be going home after the call... and i was hoping he wouldn't want me to tag along for the interview later....but..... he called and asked me to cab there myself. So.... quick lunch, back to office, brushed my teeth, grabbed the laptop and hopped on a cab.
that's when the day starts to get more exciting....
i asked the driver to take me to harbourfront centre, and i'm running late. then i ran for the lift before the door closed. there were a few people in the lift, and when i looked, it doesn't go to the level the office is!! so, i just pressed the lowest level it goes to (level 10) and was frantically pressing BUT the freaking level button didn't light up!! so i keep pressing and presing and pressing... still never light up... okay never mind.. i go back down to the 1st level.... then i looked for the lift lobby which goes to level 9...and started pressing 9 9 9 9 9...then this guy came into the lift, swiped a card near a sensor thing and pressed a level number... i almost fainted. cos the other people in the first lift must be laughing at me like siao!! but none of them offered to tell me what i should do!! ARGH. but this guy is also only half-kind. he told me i have to get a card from the security before i can access the levels, while i was hoping he would help me get to my level. BAH.
so i went down to the security. and... TADAH! i found that i was at the wrong building. the cab driver brought me to harbourfront TOWER, when i asked for harbourfront CENTRE. great, time check, 15 min late. boss called to ask where i am. : l heng the tower is just next to the centre. and heng, when i got there, the interviewee was out of the conference room to get some materials. BUT then, my laptop didn't start properly and i was fiddling with it when my boss and client were conversing. i would have dug a hole in the ground and sticked my head inside.
so great, interview went off pretty well, boss had to head off to another meeting, so i cab back to office on my own. and surprise surprise! mae told me allen thought she didn't understand chinese and was making personal phone calls in the office and speaking quite loudly... but he suddenly hush hushed when i returned. sigh. i'm not sure if u're tired of hearing stuff about dear mr AT, but i'm quite tired of his antics. and since he knew boss was not going to come back for the rest of the day, we were secretly hoping he would fall asleep, cos we've got our cameras ready. ha ha.
then time went by and i can still hear dear mr AT clicking his mouse away, oh well, better to concentrate on my work....until i wanted to pee... and i saw him sleeping!! hand was on the mouse no doubt...but only for show!! so, we decided to be more daring and took closer up pics of AT. hurhur... my heart was beating so fast it almost leaped out of my mouth!!

hurhurhurhurhur... it takes forever to upload the video on youtube.... but if u've seen the clip, my hand was trembling. i was so scared he would wake up! haha, but mae said he should be more worried if he wakes up. ha ha
then to the dior addict party with mae. the new fragrance is really quite nice! one of those scent which doesn't leave me sneezing and sneezing. and the model for the make up tips session was very tall la!!

then there was the midnight shopping at wisma.. and i decided to be 'auntie' and shop til a min of 150 so i can get lucky draw chances and maybe win a subaru! also get a 20 wisma voucher for spending min. 120. heeh heeh. but i am so stupid. i paid 12 bucks in cash, so i couldn't qualify for the min. 150 lucky dip!! oh well... too tired le.. but i must say...good service will always guarantee good shopping experience!!

I am not eligible....
$800!!!!! I can already imagine what I will do with that amount of money! But I can only imagine...
and i'm still waiting for my pink IC and citizenship certificate.
It's really no fun:
1) watching everybody else around me getting their big belated ang bao.
2) walking around with a blue ic that's punched with a hole. People look at me as if I'm from outer space.
So, clubs and movies that are not PG are out of the question for me. and someone should tell everyone that when there's a hole punched in your IC, it means it is your temporary ic until you get your pink one to save me from explaining myself to everybody.

do u believe in karma?
I proudly exclaim that i can.
this morning, i killed a baby cockroach the first thing in the morning when i went to brush my teeth. I was feeling proud of it since i've always feared such creepy crawlies and have never ever attempted to kill them myself. But given this morning's circumstances, I had no choice but to kill the baby cockroach. if not, it will grow into a big cockcroach and come back to huant me again. so, again, i felt proud of myself to overcome my fear. machiam like those participants in Fear Factor.
about half an hour ago, i got my retribution. Apparently, Mama cockcroach found out that i murdered baby cockcroach and plotted to kill me by tonight. So, it waited until mr goh left the room for dinner, when i was alone in the room, when the door was conveniently open, when i was unarmed, unaware and totally not prepared for the attack that it was about to launch on me. THEN it spreaded its horrifying wings and, like a kamikaze pilot, flew at high speed towards my face. I truly believe that if it was to land on my face at that instant, i would really be dead. Fortunately, (i believe i have done some good deeds too) I heard the flapping of its wings (yes, it was that loud) and in a milisecond, i jumped out of the sofa and ran towards the edge of the room. The room is not very big, so i was still in close proximity with the avenger. I screamed, naturally. and to those people who were unfortunate to hear my screams, i apologise.
so with the killer instinct in me, i decided to kill the Mama cockcroach too. not so easy as i thought. and it cleverly went into hiding, traumatising me for another 30 minutes or more before mr goh came to the rescue and found its hiding place. During the period when i was alone, i felt really alone, helpless and i thought of baby cockcroach.
now, i'm thinking of mama cockcroach and brave mr goh. I just hope karma is not all that true all the time.

she's so lucky....
now i know how to get my money's worth from coffee bean. *winks*
