It's been a year since I was in Taiwan.
Last year this time, I was still the blur and un-streetwise dodo bird who cried on the 1st night I was in KaoHsiung. (well, in fact, I cried every night cos i missed home so much) First time away from home, in a faraway land, for two whole weeks. Had to travel from KaoHsiung to Taichung to Taipei and then back to Taichung and KaoHsiung. Interview schedule was super packed. There were some really nasty interview respondents, though most of them were really helpful and cooperative, which made my job so much easier.
I love meeting people. Humans can be really interesting.
It's amazing (as I think back) how I managed to do all that travelling on my own. I booked my air tickets, planned my schedule to travel south to north and back. I took the 火車, buses, cabs and the Taipei Metro (which is like our mrt).
路是我自己走出的
方向是嘴問出來的
and with a map by my side, I didn't really get lost (well, most of the time).
I kinda enjoyed it actually. Made me discover a whole new side of myself. Made me have time to think about things happening around me.
I lurvvve the train/火車 rides, against the backdrop of the sunset and the farm lands that whizz past.
And the people, they're really nice and friendly. It's true when their tourism slogan says... "Taiwan-Touch your heart" The people are so warm and helpful, it makes you want to go back again and again. I made friends with a Taichung taxi driver uncle. He was basically my chauffer in Taichung for the days i was there. He was also the one who brought me to the REAL Taiyang Bing (太陽餅) store and lent me his discount card. And I met my friend's singaporean friend in Taipei, who brought me to meet with his Taipei friends, who brought both of us around-sight seeing, try out taipei local delicacies and visit nice places. I particularly liked the Miramar ferris wheel. It looked really beautiful at night.
And i think with such nice backdrops, you can't help but miss the ones you love back at home. And it's no wonder Singaporean 偶像劇 can never fight with Taiwan's 偶像劇.
Enroute to Jiu Fen and some Mountain and Yin Yang Hai and 和平公园
and the BEST PART of being in Taipei last year was....
the MAYDAY concert at Fisherman's Wharf!!
and I experienced typhoon for the first time. Tai Li Typhoon in KaoHsiung.
And I'm glad I came back in one piece, with a whole truckload of fond memories.
I forget things very easily but yet there are so many things I want to remember....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMOS!
This boy like a pistachio nut. our family's 开心果. I wish his face stays so chubby, so I can bite it like an apple everytime. Oh, and I bite his ear lobes too. very meaty! hurhur.
He's the boy who swallowed vicks (the one you apply externally) and starting wailing, vacuumed his hamster and started wailing and says he wants to eat 'sai' whenever we ask him what he wants to eat (complete with a straight no-nonsense face)!!
And he borrowed my hair.....
so he'd resemble paul twohill.
If only kids remain as kids. But only Good, Guai, kids are allowed.
I saw this fat boy, really like a ball, with a snobbish face and was shaking his entire body while standing next to his mum. Like a gangster. and he's like young?! less than 10 years old... i suppose. And there was this puddle of dirty muddy water on the floor and he spat on it. His mum whacked him once, told him it's not right, and he still spat another time. and another, and another, until the mother had to pull him away. and even after she pulled him away, the boy walked like a king and turned back to spit another time. with a 'ya ya papaya' look.
It's scary...the way kids turn out to be. It's scary when they have no respect for their parents AT ALL.
I pray I'd have good nice kids.
mr. goh has been commenting that i'm starting to look more and more like my mum.
That's a scary thought for me, too.

Dead Drunk
My bro was carried home this morning at 5am. loud knocks on the door. my mum had the shock of her life when she saw my bro lying on the floor through the peephole.
hurhur.
dead drunk. like a wooden log. could hardly move his own limbs. poor friends had to carry him into the cab -horizontally- and his body is too long... so they had to bend his legs to close the door. a lot of cabbies even drove past after seeing the state of this paralysed (yet vomitting) man.
hahaha. hilarious.
he stunk like the rubbish collection point and toxic.
deadly martel. (I've got a bottle of golden bleu at home and I know how to make the best use of it now.)
Do people really spill the beans after they get drunk?
I remember the first time when I was drunk, I wanted to just sleep but I can't cos i wanted to vomit. So I slept with my head hovering over the dustbin.
The next time I was very drunk, my stomach was aching and I wanted to shit, but I wanted to vomit at the same time too. In the end, I vomitted. Then i had the sudden craving to eat apples (I think i was thinking it might alleviate the stomachache/constipated feeling).
and i sure talked a lot of nonsense. But I was still vaguely conscious of my surroundings... or was I?
my brother didn't spill too many beans. only told us to go to bed and leave him alone. I did, but my mum didn't.
hurhur.
she started to wipe his face with warm water and wipe his body clean and what not. then it all started....
he said....
"Ma... i'm sorry, don't have to worry about me...go to bed....
I LURVE YOU!"
muahahahahhahahaha. and my mum asked, you love me? then how about ur sis (i.e. me)?
"I LURVE YOU SLIGHTLY MORE THAN SIS." and showed two thumbs up.
muahahahahhahahahaa.
i wish i had all these caught on tape.
hurhur.

outdated post- NDP 2006
I am back.
It has been a really exciting week in Taipei.
I'll blog more about that later, after I've got time to digest what happened.
More about what happened before I left for Taiwan.
I attended our nation's 41st birthday, as a lawful and rightful citizen. :)
will just post the pictures.
In the nation's colours, complete with red toe nails... Mr. Goh commented that nobody wears top white, bottom red one lor.....but he is proved wrong later....
Around and about the stadium....
Free face painting...
Big Balloons...
Inside the stadium....Mr. goh said the banners were made to look like sails...since Singapore started as a fishing village...
This woman was flying and reaching out to the audience!
and guess who is wearing white top red bottom TOO?
The clean up campaign... with a supposed lucky draw...
and the parade begins!!
I really liked the band performance! It's the second best item on the list, right after the fireworks.
Parachuters...so small in the sky sia...
Made in Singapore. on my toned arms (which I still haven't figure out how it became like that).
Planes!!
Fireworks!!!
Count on me SINGAPOOOOORRRRE....
with our Clapsticks..
one of the singapore girls... hurhur. *waves flag*
my love relationship with fireworks, and mr. goh...
and I'm beginning to like to take pics of mr goh's behind...
so, my first NDP as a national. Although not as exciting as the one i attended two years ago, it still feels good to be in a sea of Singaporeans, singing out hearts out. And as always, the fireworks display is my favourite segment.

Always have a hard time packing my luggage, ticking my check list, checking stuff again and again and again. I just finished packing, i think... more stuff to put in tmr.
Heard that the airport is not exactly a very good place to be in right now... lotsa security checks and what not. I have trouble with the metal detector sometimes... cos of my braces. =_=
very tired now. going to bed.
pls leave me a note if there's anything I can help you get from Taipei.
I'm planning to get a carton of Lin Zhiling's yogurt (if I can). Hurhur.

Back to the BBQ days
Thanks to wei hao de wei, wei hao de hao... the good old BBQing days in hall came back again. He took the initiative to organise a stay-over and BBQ at Costa Sands Sentosa's...kampung huts. The huts were not that bad actually, and I get to sleep on a bed myself! Good sleep is very important okay....
As usual... we were supposed to meet at 3pm, but everybody was late (I was on time). Sun was bright and shining, everyone was in the right mood for play. Had a few rounds of frisbee---the captain's ball way. Don't have enough stamina...getting old liaos, and my muscles ached after that.
I'm not exactly a fan of BBQ actually.
1) It's smoky (very smoky)
2) I don't like to prepare the food--- e.g. esp marinating chicken wings!! They are slimy and blooody!
3) The food is usually burnt
4) I'm a lazy pig----I want food served
5) Have to clean up
6) I especially like to eat BBQ marshmallows (but someone has to bbq it for me)
Just find it very leh chey sometimes. So, not surprisingly, I was not near the BBQ pit that night. I was, however, appointed (self-appointed) as the official photographer for the evening since I was the ONLY one who brought a camera!! And i watched over the sausages and fish balls to keep out flies and ants. =)
Had card games (forfeit is to eat marshmallows!)and the usual drinking session. I concussed at 2 plus. Late nights are really not for me already...
Next day was a good day tanning at the beach too. Although I'd only get red and turn white again.
Here's the link for the Sentosa pics...

Holiday Inn Getaway
Have been really busy these few weeks.
Need to call up companies in India, so had to stay til 8pm plus in the office everyday. Good thing is I get to take cab back. If leave work at 7, get home at 8. Leave work at 8, get home 815. which is the better deal?
Anyways, Holiday inn batam is really quite a nice place to go for some relaxing moments. The spa package i went for (full body coffee scrub and full body massage) was shiok! and by full body, it's really basically 90% of your body, front and back. *blush* No wonder mr goh doesn't want to go for the body scrub/massage- he says he's extremely ticklish. I asked the spa therapist if my body was very dirty.... cos when she was scrubing..there were a lot of brown lumps!! a bit like Ji Gong. but apparently those were the coffee and coconut cream thingy, and maybe some of my dead skin cells. Shiiiiiiiok.
But weather no good.... Bright and sunny when we left for batam... then cloudy and rainy after we got there. No pool activity, only stayed in the spa place and lunch at their cafeteria... which serves really delicious food! and they accept Sing Dollar!! to think we still went to change to rupiah.... which made us millionaire overnight. kekeke.
and we ventured out to the city area, wanting to experience their night life. but quite disappointing... some more the drive from the hotel to the city is bloody long la! 30 min of driving....along unlit, narrow roads. Faint.
and we're both tired by the time we finished our A&W dinner. haha. haven't had A&W in such a looooong time! root beer float is still the best. :)
Next morning's breakfast buffet was also very GOOOOD. see pictures for proof.
went for a short dip in the jacuzzi before checking out. the relaxing weekend turned out to be pretty relaxing... although we didn't have much to do, we were really tired. burnt out after work. so tired i drooled in my sleep, onto mr goh's polo and he took a picture of my long drool. BLEH.
Bye Batam....
