yet another ...singapore idol....

So there I was, happily at home in front of the TV, pigging out on hawaiian and pepporoni pizzas with my bro, just like two years ago... except that then I was in Hall, and mr goh was the one pigging out with me.

The Singapore Idol was the super IN thing then. I recall sitting in front of the ancient looking telly box that mr goh had in his single room in hall week after week, waiting him to buy dinner back for me. I recall the first time sylvester sang An Jing. I recall how I made mr goh vote for sylvester on the night of the finals. My mum voted for sylvester too. hurrr.

This year, although i'm no longer such a big fan of singapore idol, I still made a point to watch the finals and the results show. and of course, my support went to the ah beng again, but a much cooler ah beng this time.

It's funny how the top 2 are so alike (in more ways than one) to the previous top 2 in the first season.

Goody looking boy boy crooning sweet love tunes vs the rocker Beng.

my mum made me sms one vote to jon. pity he didn't win. I felt he was much more a star than hady. heard on the radio that some listeners think hady won cos his community is more tightly knit and really lends him their support.. hmmmmm... I think it's cos i didn't make mr goh vote with me for jon this time, since he hardly has time to do anything else now. perhaps if i made him, jon might have won. hurrr hurrr. We voted a lot of times for sylvester wor! (but he also didn't win la....)

I also thought jonathon's "support local music" propaganda will help him win, apparently not...

"It's hard holding you....loving you.... losing you....
It's sad to be true.. and be fooled by you....
I don't know......I gotta know...
Should I stay...or should I go....."

SmileS2006

I posted mr goh and my smile on the s2006 mural, just for fun =) coincidentally, my pic was placed on the west side of singapore.

I wanted to follow closely the news of the IMF meeting here in Singapore, but the past 2 weeks had been crazy. I've only heard of the IMF-World Bank hooha, but that was resolved fairly quickly... and the Batam conference...

This meeting will really raise the profile of Singapore, let people around the globe know that we're more than a little red dot and pi sai. From what i hear on the news, it seems like Singapore had scored distinction again. =)

Our 16 sep weekend

K Lunched with mr goh at cineleisure, cos he wanted to master some songs to sing so he won't be tongue-tied again when he's dragged onstage by his colleagues and forced to sing a duet with the-mother-of-two (kids), or any other female colleague.

and I just found out today when I had dinner with Mr goh, that he was actually stripped top naked and made to sing some.. i wanna make love to you tonight duet with the-mother-of-two, where she sat on his lap too.

Seriously, i'm a bit DISGUSTED. but i know (or i hope) this is all in the name of good, clean fun.

anyways i digressed. K Lunch at cineleisure was damn good la! Mr. Peh! we got cheated by the clementi k lunch which only served us kopitiam chicken rice and neighbourhood bakery tuna puff!

Look at this! a complete set of jap with appetiser, main, fruits and coleslaw. We're planning to go try out the marina branch this weekend or next.

then....went to pulau punggol where GGgoh shifted to. The Mrt ah... fwah. very nobody one leh! the roads ah....fwah. can lie down on it one leh! My mum always tells me she grew up in punngol...now that it has turned into a new town, it'l prob take another 3-5 years for it to become more populated and more happening. keke.

Anyways, the visits to GGgoh's house are never short of one thing... FOOD!!

Thank you GG mum for preparing all the food. I remember the first time i went GG's place, we baked. the next few times, we made Shui Jiao, and the malay kueh, and cheesecake and what not.

and this time, eileen bought prata (all sorts) from Jln Kayu too. I think i finished 3 or 4 slices by myself since she bought so many, and there's really no way we can finish it.

then popped over to eileen's new place. It was POURING and the roads were FLOODED. so we entertained ourselves in the car by taking pics. Hurrrr.

and after we got to eileen's place.... we found THIS!!

That was me 10 years ago!! I look like a BOY!!
I don't remember seeing pictures of myself like THAT in my album of photos.
well, i suppose it's a good thing i didn't continue looking like that... Kekeke.

I'm on MC today. exactly two months since i last took one. The rainy weather just makes you want to sleep more and eat more. And it doesn't help that my period is coming, so i've been snacking like MAD, making my bloated stomach even more bloated. eating all the junk, no wonder will fall sick. been working too hard for the past week or so. initially thought things will slow down at work by the end of sep...but no... i totally forgot there'll be follow-ups from the client. if they ask ridiculous questions, i'm going to vomit. verbal diarrhea. I really want things to slow down a little at work.

I think 24 hours a day is just not enough. Even with a day of rest at home, i felt tired and felt like I hadn't rested at all (maybe partly because I was still doing work at home =_=) my korean girl wrote me this when I told her I'm on medical leave today and will only be back in the office tmr to speak to her regarding korea's report:

"Dear ~ Poh Chin

Are you sick?
I make you uncomfortable.
So you are sick. T.T

Your help and sincere mind always give me power.

take care of you~~

Tomorrow I want to meet you ..on skype in the morning."

It kinda makes me feel like Harry Potter sometimes. the Potter and Dhobby relationship.

Then found out my HK colleague has tendered her resignation already. she wrote this in her blog (written in HongKong-ese):

再令記憶難忘的是當中一起努力拼搏過的一班同事

Aruna -在好短時間便和她成為無所不談的好朋友﹔雖然外面看我是冷她是熱可是和她的想法非常接近。還教識我用念力去令頸鏈打圈 哈哈

Poh Chin -

I think I am going to miss the traveling and the flexibility that this job brings

那我為什麼要走﹖

可能是Gut feeling? 可能是為挑戰﹖可能是看長線?

Allen 說是 opening a door to a bigger and better world …………………………………這句說話實在 “tum” 得我好開心 …. 哈哈哈 ….

可能這一走我會要跌下碰下﹐無論如何﹐就一試吧。

I'm gonna miss working with her... I remember the first time we met in Taiwan, KaoHsiung, we had Chou Toufu together. although we didn't travel together for the rest of the time in Taiwan, it helps to know u're not alone doing this; and she kinda made me braver and guided me all along the way.

two years...that's about the time I prepare myself to be with my company too. or maybe a little shorter than two years, if the right door of opportunity opens.

You are BEAUTIFUL.....

refering to my report, that is.

My boss said that of my report this afternoon! He was very happy with what I've put up. *BIG GRIN*

This is the first major report that I've single-handedly put together (of course, I had the help of my colleagues who helped me cut and paste the responses onto the main slides; albeit grudgingly...but that's a different story altogether.). I've done other reports too... but those were either updates of previous reports we've done before, or small projects. My first immense job satisfaction.

I like my boss. I think he's nice. but I dunno why the others don't like him. I think he give praises when they are due and give criticisms where they shld be heard too.

Things like these make my day at work, no matter how lousy my work day/week was. Things like these keep me going and want to prove my worth. Cos I don't understand why everyone in the office does the same kind of job, but get different pay.

I WANT to earn my worth.

"this is beautifully done. everything here is very good."

well said....very well said. :)

Hey mr. DJ, put the records ON

I was on the cab today and the driver tuned in to a certain local chinese radio station, with target audience 40 yrs and above. It was around dinner time and I felt the deejays really eat full no thing to do (chi bao mei shi zuo) and started discussing about how when other people tickle you (the deejays actually said 'GU CHI'you on air), you'd feel ticklish. This is because your brain sends signals and kinda 'prepares' you for the 'attack'. But when you try to tickle yourself, it will not be ticklish at all.

and they started to discuss about the different parts of the body where you'd feel ticklish. Soles of feet la... Armpits la... waist la... and the deejays were actually trying to tickle themselves and giggling on air!!

Deejay A says to Deejay B: Hey! It's really not ticklish at all! (when she tickled herself). Let me try the soles of my feet...

Deejay B to Deejay A: Don't be disgusting la... I smell something bad in the air.. put your shoes back on.

Deejay A giggling: Hey! it's slightly ticklish when i guchi my soles!

Deejay B: you know what, that means your brain is a bit cuckoo. sending out the wrong signals...

Giggle giggle giggles.

Two songs later...... they had people calling in....

Caller A: Hello... I tried to guchi myself... and it wasn't ticklish! (oh wow)

Deejay: where did you guchi yourself?

Caller A: everywhere! except the soles of my feet cos I'm driving now! laugh laugh laugh.

Deejay: Aiyo, so dangerous!

Caller A: It's ok la.. in 'Country M', no one will catch!!

(then I laughed, and driver threw me a look)

Caller B: I used my friend's hand to guchi myself and it's not ticklish also leh! How come ah? Maybe should ask the rest of the listeners to try also.. and see if it's ticklish....

Deejay: OKAY LISTENERS... take your neighbour's hand and try to tickle yourself...is it ticklish?? call in and tell us okay?? By the way, where did your friend's hand guchi you, caller B?

Caller B: He guchi my armpit!

Deejay: oooh..then you got shave or not? (Caller B is a guy) If very bushy, then a bit difficult to guchi. and WHICH finger of your friend did you use?

Caller B: Haha, he said it felt warm and moist. He used his index finger.

Deejay: Will it feel different if he used his MIDDLE finger?

Caller B: Hahahahahahhaa.

Deejay: Listeners....when you go guchi your friends, must remember to use your index fingers ok.... and must remember to "HA HA" your finger ("HA HA" being the action of exhaling and blowing air, usually on your hands when you're cold)

I RAISED MY EYEBROWS.

I was stuck in the cab for 25 minutes, listening to this junk.

Are there no other topics to talk about, Deejays?

If you really run out of ideas, then just spin the music.

Messed on Sept 11

MSN users around the world have been experiencing sign-in errors with MSN Live Messenger.

My bro's friend says this website may be able to help.

www.mess.be

all these hackers just have too much time on their hands, messing up people's lives.

The Host

Haven't watched a horror film for some time, and since mr goh didn't mind, we decided to watch the Host.

I whispered 'good luck' to the guy sitting next to me, the one who'd have to endure my screams and outbursts.

But....

It wasn't a scary movie.

yes, the mutated creature was very disgusting looking.

yes, there were occasional scenes which made me shriek and jump out of my seat.

But...

it's not the typical 'The Ring' kinda scary movie.

It was, in fact, very sad and I cried.

cos people died. and the protagonist had to watch his own father get killed by the monster. watch his own daughter captured by the monster.

And he can do nothing about it. Helplessness....,i concluded, is the other 'monster' in the show.

You try so hard to save someone, clinging on to the slightest glimpse of hope and at the end of it, when you're so close to achieving it, you realise there's still nothing you can do. and you feel helpless again. Is that a vicious cycle or what?

so you vent it out on the monster who took your loved ones away. though that's nt going to revive them.

You have to start living again, as a better person. There are other things to hope for, i guess.

In any case, I enjoyed the movie. I think i'm starting to enjoy Korean movies more and more. I watched 'The Art of Seduction' some time ago, and really liked it. And today, 'The Host'. Their actors and actresses aren't the best looking, but there's just something different about korean movies.

Then again, I probably haven't watch enough korean movies to make a good judgement.

with mr goh at borders.
The 10 Most Annoying Alarm Clocks

Got this email from ru. I also agree that the floating one is the best. though I'd realllllly like to sleep until i can sleep no more then wake up naturally. HeeH.

#10 - Climbing clock . It hangs above your head and starts climbing while it rings. Don't wake up fast enough, and you won't be able to shut it up without a ladder.

# 9 Wake Up Puzzle . You have to build the puzzle to make it stop

# 8 Wake or Curse . You can ask it what the time is and it will answer. But if you don't wake up quickly enough it will curse you.

# 7 High Tech . This one has a vibrator, 95 db alarm and police style rotating light that you cannot ignore.

# 6 Find The Pin - You need find the right pin to stop it's ringing. Not going to stay sleepy after this mission.

# 5 Chicken and Egg Problem - The egg laying alarm clock. It will only quiet down after you put all the eggs back.

# 4 GI Joe . You will wake to the sound of your commander's wake up call. Don't mess with it.

# 3 Floating Around - Will float around the room until you'll catch it.

# 2 Kaboom - This acoustic grenade will wake the neighborhood with it's ultra loud sound level.

# 1 Hide and Seek - The winner is the hide and seek alarm clock. Once it begins to ring it falls down to the floor and finds a random place to hide. Chase it down or else you're doomed.
Weekends always seem longer when you have something going on on Friday night. =)

Met the sweeties for dinner and KTV and I've finally managed to pass them their 'branded' bags from Taiwan! Got LV la... Burberry la... Fendi la.. Chanel la... missing a Gucci (which I've pased to zee a few weeks ago when i met her in town).. so I placed my bag instead... to get the full picture. Hurhur.

I brought yogurt back from Taiwan too! but they expired before we met up! I had to give away 2 tubs so they won't be wasted. =_=

I MUST SAY THESE ARE THE BEST YOGURT I'VE EVER TRIED!

I had them everyday when I was in Taiwan last year (cos my schedule was more packed and I hardly had time for decent meals).

I still prefer Lin Zhiling's yogurt to Rainie's.

So...any one who's going to Taiwan.... Get me nothing else but Lin Zhiling's yogurt!!! Yummilicous yogurt...

Also had the girls to try DanShui's TieDan (metal egg), which is basically oven baked, dark sauce marinated bird's eggs. Smells a bit fishy though, I don't know why. Extremely Q Q (i.e. chewy) Zee and ru liked it. =) my mum, my bro and mr. goh hated it. Huurr.

Mich loved the GQ mag I got from TW (with david tao on the cover). =))
she also had 4 sticks in 2 hours, which was a bit worrying. I'm sure the rest of the sweeties will agree that we want to see her happy, and love herself more than she should anyone else. =)

Saturday was spend 'homing' (i.e. staying at home). Slept til 2pm, mum cooked lunch. Helped my bro with his tutorial qns... FWAH. I can't remember how to differentiate and do the Lagrange multiplier MAN! Good thing I still kept my JC notes...!! Maths can be quite addictive... especially when you can finally get the answers. I feel more accomplished doing well for a Maths paper than a theory paper (although most of the time, I don't do well for my Maths paper....)

Mr Goh came over for dinner and then we head back his place to watch soccer. Well, he watched soccer, I was reading 女人我最大

It has like one thousand and one tips on how skin care regime, massage, hair and make up. But i'm taking a really long time to read it cos it's all in Traditional Chinese characters!! -faint-

We also tried to finish a pint of Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby ice cream. Comfort food. It's damnnnn nice laaaa!

until i turned and counted the calories....

SUNDAY IS HERE! I feel like a pig.

Are you a give or take person?

"The radio plays our favourite song.... and it's what keeps me going on...
Baby, do you miss me? Now that i'm gone..."

Was listening to the radio... and the deejay was talking about GIVE and TAKE, how in the same day, she experienced the joy of both giving and receiving gifts.

Receiving gifts is definitely absolutely delightfully pleasing. especially if they come as surprises. don't need to be expensive, lavish gifts. Some gifts just have the magic to touch your heart. I like receiving gifts. =)

Sometime back, when I was in Taipei, I kinda got lost and found myself in a book store.

All chinese books.

It's a nice feeling to be able to spend a lazy afternoon, browsing and people-watching. Bookstores (or maybe the brainwaves of intellectual people in there)always have this effect on me. So I decided it's time to give.

I picked some 'Taiwanese-flavoured' cards for my loved one and the sweeties back in sg. I wrote in chinese characters, in complete sentences (for the first time after dunno how many years). And as I was writing, I was thinking of their faces....how it'd light up when they receive the snail-mailed cards. How my thoughts travelled the miles, 千里之外.

and I guess this feeling is better than that of receiving (sometimes) :)
