Foodie weekday!
After a foodie weekend, and days of bloated stomach, Mr Goh suggested that we go to Cuppage Oh Sho Ramen for dinner.
And... being the greedy me, I suggested that we order one Dinner Set ($15) and one Ramen ($10) to share.
The serving for the dinner set is enough to feed two of us la! A bowl of soup and Gyoza (6pcs) comes with the set. The mains itself has two fried ebi, stirfried pig's liver, ketchup on omelette, fried rice and salad in the middle. The plate is as big as the Lao Yu Sheng kinda plate.
We were happily eating the mains and the ramen... until we realised that there's still the gyoza!! We only had one gyoza each before we raised our white flags and had to ta bao it back home.
Indeed, I was a hungry and greedy pig before dinner... As usual... my appetite will increase exponentially when this time of the month comes... It's not good at all!
My birthday is around the corner... but I don't feel excited?

Foodie weekend
Mr Goh had been rambling about this famous Bak Kut Teh (BKT) place at rangoon road ever since his colleagues brought him there. It's only open from 6am to 2pm (closed on Mondays), so we thought we'd better go there early in order not to disappoint ourselves.
What turned out to be a good intentioned, good-for-tummy trip, wasn't so fantastic after all. Don't get me wrong... the food was yummy and I'd love to go back there again...
See, we arranged for Mr Goh to come pick me up at 11am, so we could get there and have an early lunch. But I woke up late, so Goh had to come by around 12.
AND we took ONE hour to find the place, cos Mr Goh, with a street directory in the car, did not know how to get there. Throughout the journey, he was asking me for directions.
FIRST of all, I DON'T DRIVE, I can't tell the difference between the PIE and the CTE and the AYE.
SECOND of all, I HAVE NEVER been to that BKT place.
THIRD of all, I'm a history student; so I suck at reading maps.
So, for every wrong turn, he would huff and puff; for every driver who did not give way to him, he would scold them and honk at them. I know it probably isn't fun to be driving for ONE hour, so I just kept my mouth shut.
Finally, we found the place and had to wait for a table. Wait wait wait...
I was really quite hungry already since I didn't have anything that morning. Good that we managed to get a table after 10-15 min. Sat down, and Mr Goh asked me what I wanted to eat...I said i want ZHU JIAO. pig's legs. BUT he ordered BKT and ZHU GAN (pig's liver). Not that i mind zhu gan, cos i love to eat zhu gan too... but it's just one of the small things that irks me.
what followed was just a series of worse things which really ANNOYED me. We were seated for 5 min already... and nobody came to ask us for our orders, nor clear the table for us. So I suggested to Mr Goh that he asked the uncle to come over BUT he refused to budge! He said we've just gotta wait for our turn.
A HUNGRY WOMAN IS AN ANGRY AND MAD AND IMPATIENT WOMAN.
So obviously I wasn't very happy liao. Then after ordering, he realised he's got no cash, (I told him I've got about 20 bucks), and he just left in a hurry to find an ATM, in freaking ulu rangoon road!!! I was so MAD! Immediately after he left, the food came and I asked for the bill (which turned out to be 18 only and I've got 25). It's annoying and silly because we could have asked for the bill first, and if we don't have enough cash, THEN GO FIND AN ATM. Simple logic right or not.... all you do is open your mouth and ask, if you're not sure.
Anyway, one bad thing leads to another, I didn't have my hp with me to call him back. So I waited, and waited, and waited...
the smell of the BKT. the temptation just right there. ARGH.
the boss of the shop came by to ask me why I'm not eating yet. Another uncle came by and asked me why the person still haven't come. The table in front of me came at same time, but already finished their meal.
All in all, I waited for 20 min, until I buay tahan, took out a ten cent coin, left my seat and the food, and used those old-fashioned put-ten-cent-coin-in-dial-phone (thankfully) to call that Mr Goh (see right corner of pic, yellow phone). The phone is like DAMN dusty lor.
The BKT soup and teh had already stopped boiling, but my blood was BOILING TO THE MAX, which explains for the super unhappy I-want-to-kill-you-with-my-stares kinda photos.
I must commend the store's service though... cos the boss changed the BKT and pig's liver for ME, since they've already turned cold. (I later found out that this is the (in)famous BKT shop which refused to open beyond their usual operating hours to serve HK's CEO Donald Tsang and the local media created a big hoo ha over it...)
So all in all, it was just a very annoying lunch. Even give me eat birds nest, abalone, sharks fin, they also won't taste good.
But I want to go back there again.... I love making tea like that. ;D
So after the lunch hoo-ha, we went to One George as planned (stopover at HANS to have a drink and dessert first).
Then to FF. View from the pool...
can see the Singapore Flyer wor! 75% completed!
It would be the largest ferris wheel in the world! 165m in diameter! but hor... singapore flyer... can have nicer name or not?
Anyways, I freaking rode on the cyling machine for ONE HOUR! 20 km! 400 calories! I was pretty impressed with myself, cos originally I only wanted to do 30 min... then thought of going for 45, and then thought, what's another 15 more?
I'm glad I pushed myself....
cos that night we went and fed ourselves like PIGS at Chomp Chomp.
Mr Goh was in such a hurry to leave because we ordered chicken wings too, but the lady hasn't come... and we really can't eat any more!
Plus, it's so stressful to eat at Chomp Chomp's. There's perpetually the seats-problem. And when you finally get one, there are 'vultures' looking over you as you eat, standing as close to your shoulders as possible, it's annoying. I mean, I will also stand next to the table to 'pressure' people to leave their seats... BUT that is only when I see that they're finishing their drinks or sth...
This mother, along with her daughter, stood really close to me. Apparently, we looked like we were finising our dinner... but that's cos the rest of the orders hadn't come yet!! The daughter was kicking my bench lor! I wanted to scream at her already lor! but I wasn't so mean to spit the food onto her face.... :P Bleh.
and to end the night, Mr Goh's mother brought back Black Glutinuous rice soup, with gingko nuts. I SUPER LIKE. =D

My Visual DNA... what's yours?
Here's what my Visual DNA says of my personality...
MOODS
DREAMER - Always drifting off, their imagination takes control. They have big ideas, and a cool calm manner.
You're a bit of a romantic and like to get back to basics. The expanse of the wilderness is inspiring and you like landscapes that make you feel calm. When it comes to art, you're definitely unconventional. You like to think differently, always from another perspective. You have a good sense of humour. As for music, it's the soundtrack to your world. You've got to grips with downloading and your mp3 is at your hand. It gives you focus and concentration - you might find it hard to switch off. Your choice of treat shows that you really care about your appearance, if you feel good on the outside, you'll feel good on the inside right?
FUN
ESCAPE ARTIST - They are forever slipping off, getting away from the rat race, and recharging those batteries. Independent and thoughtful - they know themselves well.
You love to be far away from your everyday life. You love the sun, and like to live life at a slower pace than most - you know how to take things nice and easy! For kicks, you like to experience life at full volume with the lights on full. You're extremely passionate and emotional, and a bit of an exhibitionist? You express yourself and don't mind who's watching. When it comes to holidays, you reckon they should always be indulgent - a very special treat. You love to be in charge of where you are heading - the freedom of choosing your own direction. What grosses you out? You favour the natural look and can't stand a pumped and plumped, plastic appearance.
HABITS
NEW WAVE PURITAN - They are strict, organised and ever so neat - they practice the art of self-discipline. They like things done simply but with an eye for detail.
Living in a material world you are always flashing the plastic. You like to live for today and not get caught up thinking about tomorrow - hey, that would slow your shopping down. Your choice of drink shows that on the whole you care about your health and make sure you're putting the right stuff in. As for the home, you have very cool and contemporary taste and see yourself as a bit of a trend setter. You like your surroundings to be simple and as stylish as you.
LOVE
LOVE BUG - They are the type to fall in love a thousand times a day. Their feelings snowball quickly, and they are full of passion.
For you love is about long-term commitment, it means devotion and tenderness. When you think of freedom - you think of being in charge of your own direction. The open road and a fill tank can take you pretty much anywhere.
I think it really describes me pretty well!
U think?

Taj Mahal
WHEE! yes... I'm backdating my entries AGAIN. As time passes, it gets harder and harder and get back the same feeling, but I shall try.... at least late than never.
So, since i'm at this picture, I shall start with the magnificent Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. Remember I said I wanted to visit all seven wonders of the world in my lifetime? well, that's one checked off the list. = )
It's really B E A U T I F U L. Every little thing is so detailed, crafted to the finest perfection. It's amazing Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements of Persian, Indian and Islamic architecture. Every bit of the marble and the carvings (see bottom left pic) are done by HAND.
I was told by my guide that I'm sitting where Princess Diana sat before, but when I searched for Princess Diana's pic at the Taj Mahal... it doesn't look like the same marble bench leh.
In any case, I did feel like a Princess Diana then, since Mr Goh wasn't with me when I visited this masterpiece built for love, just like Prince Charles wasn't with Diana when she visited. I think the Taj is made even more beautiful by the love story behind it; and how the locals have been so proud of it everytime they speak of it.
-Round and about the Taj-
See how the Taj changes colour (Right column pics). Rinku (my guide) told me this is the 'magic' of the Taj. The taj changes colour with light. At night, if the lighting is good, the Taj will look like it's sparkling, with jewels. Ahhhh... that's magic... And that's the picture of the Yamuna river. Across the river, there's supposed to be a black taj, for the emperor himself, but he did not live to finish building it and his son felt it was too extravagant.... if not, everything about the Taj would be symmetrical. Perfect. I guess it's good that the emperor's tomb is placed next to his wife? at least they're close to each other....
You cannot wear shoes in the Taj, so that's sth to wrap around my feet. And that's me trying to look regal and imagining myself as the empress reincarnate, and that's my guide.
-Taj marble at sunrise, sunset and night-
I bought a Taj marble table top back too... heavy and expensive ah! Here's the marble shop person explaining the different precious and semiprecious gemstones on the marble slabs...
If I ever go back to Agra again, I'd visit the Taj at night... where the magic begins.
Dhoom Machale!
my favourite song while I was in Delhi last year! Bollywood is boom boom boom! Since when did they learn to dance like that?!?
Touted as dance music of the year.....
Bringing to you....
From Paris to Berlin!!
and then, good songs must share with the other side of the world right....
so here is Taipei to Beijing!
I hated this song when I first heard the chinese version. Then after I saw the english version on tv, I couldn't help but be so amused by it. And now, it's growing on me.
Hopefully, I'll soon be on my way from India to Shanghai to Melbourne and Sydney!!
keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed.....

I'm in Like wifth Ju....
Let me tell you about this boy called Ju.....lian.
He is my Bodycombat and ABT class instructor.
He is very well toned (obviously) but not the chunky hunky bodybuilder type.
He gives clear instructions during class, so I don't do silly things like raise my legs when we're supposed to do punches.
He likes to sing along with the music tracks, which is a good distraction from the pain in my abs.
He likes to smile and I can't see his eyes when he's smiling, but i think he has wrinkles around his eyes ^ ^
His whole body is pouring sweat cos a few droplets fell onto my arms when he was punching next to me during one of the classes.
I suppose he will smell better when he's not sweating.
His classes are just really velly entertaining. I liiikkkke.
He recognises me and my favourite usual spot in the studio (but I suppose he recognises the other regulars too, or because i'm always wearing the same gym outfit to his classes).
He motivates me to kick higher kicks and punch harder punches.
He makes me smile silly during class.
And if he ever gets to know about this entry, I am deadmeat.
HE WILL BE GONE ON HOLIDAY FOR TWO WEEKS!
What am I going to do without him??
I was pretty tempted to ask him where he's going for his holiday after class today, but this auntie went up to him first!
Oh well, he shall continue to be my eye candy at FF. See, no touch.
Muahhahahaa.
As FF's motto puts it, "Motivation is what gets you started, habit(or Ju....lian...) is what keeps me going."

A mini surprise
Mr Goh gave me a mini surprise tonight by dropping by the office to bring me dinner. $10 Ramen from Cuppage. ridiculously expensive, although I must say it tasted really good.
The reason why it's only a mini surprise and not a major surprise is cos... I was half expecting it.
See, Mr Goh works really near me. When I told him I was going to stay late working in the office, he said he's going home for dinner. That was at about 7 + when he left the office. And at that point of time, I was really wondering if he'd bring me dinner.... but after waiting for more than 30 min, I thought he'd probably have gone home.....
until ...someone opened the door to the office...
Couldn't see who it was at first, thought it was m who came back, or someone who went through the wrong door....
anyhow, he said he was on already on his way home, but turned back and decided to surprise me. Hurrr.
yea, so it's just a mini surprise.
I'm still waiting for a BIG one. ;)
He got his fair share by finishing (almost) my whole can of Wasabi macadamia nuts.
Must get more of this; it's really quite addictive. :D

我又初恋了!
The pressure is building, so is the amount of never ending work.
And since I'm the only person in the office, I plugged in my headphones and blasted MayDay's 我又初恋了, ON REPEAT! Singing my heart and lungs out is such a stress reliever!!!! And it's really HOU SAI LAI (好犀利)!
Song of the month:
Click to play
我吃了铁牛运功散
因为我内伤好犀利
好犀利
你的魔力真的好犀利

unloading the weight on my heart to the web
So.... whatever sneaky happenings last week materialised today. All this while, I knew things will eventually turn out this way. The next two to three months will spell C-R-A-Z-Y.
But I know I will survive, we will survive. I have unknowingly taken a bit more responsibility towards the company than I expected.
Speaking to an ex colleague, I told him about what's going on at work and such. I told him I felt a bit lost, especially since i've witnessed every one of my colleagues leaving.
Then he said, 'actually, I think you're doing well and you enjoy your work. The most important thing is that you enjoy your work. The company gives us a lot of opportunities to handle every aspect of project management. You won't get these kind of exposure in bigger companies, in (insert big consulting company he worked with after he left us), I was not given these opportunities at all. I think the jobs skills required of THE APPRENTICE are similar to what we learnt from working with Peter."
The sweeties also sorted out my thoughts....
"there are different types of people, can perform very well during interviews, can perform well for the daily tasks. you are capable or more."
"you should really be looking forward.... there'll probably be more opportunities for you."
still, i felt restless at work today. The decision to still make it for gym class was a GOOD one. During that 60 minutes, I was only concentrating on easing the pain in my legs and stomach. During that 60 minutes, I manage to really laugh (at my instructor's jokes), feel the sweat trickle down my back and just think of doing that additional squat/crunch/leg raise to make up the count.
Mr goh was around to further sort my thoughts during dinner.
He reminded me that there are two types of people (honest and dishonest) and also that career mismatch is a serious problem. You'll never do well at work if you don't enjoy what you're doing, or is always unhappy about the pay you're getting, if your career expectations are not met and yada yada...
Oh well, I'm not going to think so much liao. My colleagues will start their new lives, while I work my way through mine, the kind of living that I'm still happy with and enjoying, at least for now. There ain't no mountain high enough.....
And thanks girls for keeping me sane.
thank you mr goh for keeping me grounded.

Great expectations
For the past week, I've listened to people's stories, about expectations; expectations of themselves, of others close to them, and their future together. I realised that circumstances shape people, how we're brought up molds us, the way we think, the way we expect to be treated, how the world looks through each of our eyes, how ,in the future we'd want our children to live the way we're living, if not better.
The final blueprint for living life, the big picture, will somewhat be similar for everybody, but how we get there differs.
Relationships are like that, i guess.
You constantly need to meet expectations of each and everyone in that circle, like the different layers of the onion, until you reach the core. You get frustrated by others (the other layers) so much so that sometimes, you forgot who you're really in love with.
I shared with Mr Goh my thoughts about the future, my own kind of expectations and secretly hopes that his are the same as mine. Where it's not, hopefully we'd compromise.
While browsing furniture at Harvey Norman today, we have a glimpse of what our future home will look like. I told him I want an oven in the kitchen, doesn't matter if I don't bake. I just want an oven. And he said, together with the oven, he will get me the ironing board, the washing machine, and the vacuum as well. His sense of humour really tickles me.
I'm not sure if talking about things like these is still too early??
Though he says he's frustrated that he's reached a stage where he's ready to move forward, yet he can't because of practical realities. I feel his frustrations too, and I don't mind moving forward but I guess good things, like good wine, needs to be cultured over time.
Patience rewards those who wait? Will there really be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?
only time can tell, really.
as for now, just hold on dearly and savour every moment of it.
It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. Charles Dickens, Great Expectations.

attraction of the wrong kind
While on the train home last night (cos met ru and mich for dinner, if not i usually take the bus), I saw this Indian man wink at me, from the other end of the cabin....
At first I thought I was imagining things, too much workout-two classes in a row, my limbs almost giving way, my biological clock says it's time to sleep....
Then, he did it again.
So I looked back, thinking that he could be my Indian friend from primary school or JC.... but no look like anyone I know leh....
So...I sent an sms to mich, just something to keep my mind and fingers working, although from the reflection I could still see him staring at me.
City hall stop: I would usually get out and go to the platform upstairs to take the green line... but i decided i will take to raffles place instead...
and he came to sit right next to me!
"Hi, what's your name?"
I: raised eyebrow
"I'm a tourist, I come from Sri Lanka and I would like to make friends with you..."
I: continue to fiddle with phone
"Can we talk?"
I: "erh... I don't think I want to... it's late and I'm on my way home."
"I can go home with you?"
I: "WHAT?!"
DING DONG... RAFFLES PLACE...
hurriedly walked out and started punching Mr Goh's number on my phone..
"I just want to make friends and talk... I'm also going home...."
I: "SORRY, I need to talk to my boyfriend."
BUT MR GOH DIDN'T PICK UP HIS PHONE.
and the sri lankan hung around, giving me looks, when I finally decided to STARE back at him. That sort of did the trick and he didn't follow me on the west bound train.
why i always kenna this kinda things ah, in delhi, in taipei... and now in spore...
why never let me meet some prince or knight... who will marry me and take me to his castle and ride on horses everyday.... (we met a sec sch friend who got married to someone like that last night too)
then again, who knows... I might have turned away the maharaja's son last night...

I feel the EARTH MOVE under my skin...
"I feel the
EARTH
MOVE
UNDER
MY
SKIN
I feel the world tumbling down, tumbling down...."
Well, aptly put by this song, I did feel the earth move this afternoon....
Was at client's office with boss doing a presentation when towards the end of the meeting, the long table starts to sway left and right. I felt dizzy for a second. Then the lamps start to sway too, and almost Jurassic Park style, the cup of tea starts to ripple.....
I stared across the meeting table, look up down left right, and felt the room turning topsy-turvy. Exchanged glances with a few of the clients... and one of them decided to leave the room and find out what's happening... ALL this time, boss was still giving his presentation speech, looking at the screen... totally oblivious to what has just happened....
until girl comes in, "Sorry guys, WE'VE GOT TO EVACUATE THE BUILDING!!"
So we packed our stuff, and evacuated the building in an orderly manner... no pushing, shoving people down the staircase, jumping off the building, screaming, madly calling people on the phone to say last goodbyes and what not...
Some people even took the lift... =_=
Everyone gathered opposite the building and just kept staring at it, wondering if it'd collapse anytime soon....
but news travel TOO DAMN FAST. someone already said it's an earthquake in indonesia.
And I thought: wow, must be a helluva earthquake...
It's scary.... the few seconds/minutes of tremors we felt would be magnified tens of thousands of times in indonesia.
We could still take our time to slowly walk out of the building, what about the people in western indonesia? News has it that hundreds of buildings were flattened, the quake aftershock killing at least 30 with a magnitude of 6.3.
Life continues for us. Work continues.
We settled in at Venezia,
where boss finished the remaining of his presentation,
while I finished my cup of frothy cuppucino.

my school building
Flipping through the New Paper today, my glance fell upon this small article with the heading "From school building to boutique hotel".... not usually the kind of news that will attract me... until I saw the words 'Pearl's Hill Primary School'.
That's where I came from.
Now, from a run-down school building, it is going to be converted into a boutique business hotel by the end of this year!
I still remember the school compound vividly.... a 12-storey building (apparently not many primary schools are this high).... the staircases, the lifts and the lift uncles, the dental clinic and the book store on the 1.5th level.
I remember the canteen, the different food stalls, some of the aunties' faces. My favourite fried rice and sunny side up as well as the wanton noodles. All for less than $1. I remember the benches, and some of those which always have bird shit on them.
The pond which looks mouldy all the time. The field, the monkey bar where my bro broke his arm, the basketball court where we run our 1.6km, the park where we always go during our art lessons... the angsana and casuarina trees.
so so so many memories.
now the classrooms will be turned into hotel rooms and bathrooms. The canteen will become the lobby. The garden may be a balcony. The basketball court into a swimming pool?
maybe i should gather my primary school friends and book ourselves a room there when it's done. =)
