Tony Romas baby back ribs

I had a super duper busy weekend. Met up with uni friends at Tony Romas (tasty ribs and baked beans!)

and talked about all the faculty friends who are either married or going to get married, talked about taxes and e-filing, couples who have recently got together and how officer HY ill-treats his recruits. keke.

Although we took about one month or more to organise this little gathering, i'm very glad that everyone still makes the effort to come down and it's just great. Let's start organising the next one!

My window with a view

That's my office window. Not exactly breathtaking view but definitely a better fengshui than my previous desk (cos the previous one was nearest the door and sometimes, when people open the door, i will get "chua dio" & "jump" in my seat)Now, i get to be nearer to the sunshine, the rain and the clouds and also the birds that rest on the ledge sometimes.

I've seen a father teaching his son how to swim in the pool before and it is pretty hilarious. The father was teaching him very seriously, demonstrated all the strokes in the correct manner but the boy was just bouncing about in water. Some people play tennis at like 1pm in the afternoon, when it's like so very hot.

and here's my messy desk. I should do something about it sometime... have more pictures of family and friends, maybe a candy jar and some nice flowers/plants to take care of.

my blog is evil!

I want to be a kid again...

I copied a list of stuff of things done when we were young and i did my own changes to the list. Here it goes:

I want to go back to the time when...

Decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-mo."

Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "do corrections!"

"Race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest.

Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in Monopoly.

Playing catching or zeropoint could happily occupy the entire recess.

It wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends.

Everyone owns an autograph book.

Being old referred to anyone over 20.

The net on a badminton court was the perfect height to play volleyball and rules didn't matter.

It was magic when dad would "remove" his thumb.

Having a weapon in school meant being caught with "staplets".

Nobody was prettier than Mom.

Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better.

It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the "big people" rides at the amusement park.

Getting chicken pox then was considered a blessing. (I have yet to get it at my current age)

Saturday morning cartoons makes us jump out of bed willingly.

No shopping trip was complete unless a new toy was brought home.

Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles.

The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team.

War was a card game.

Water balloons (or shaken gas-y drinks) were the ultimate weapon.

Ice cream was considered a basic food group.

Are You Ready for Children?

Just as I was on the topic of children, I came across a series of tests which will definitely prepare you for that bundle of joy (if you pass the test with flying colours).

Are you considering having children? To determine whether you are truly prepared for the experience, we suggest you take this set of simple tests...
MESS TEST:

Smear peanut butter on the sofa and curtains. Now rub your hands in the wet flower bed and rub on the walls. Cover the stains with crayons. Place a fish stick behind the couch and leave it there all summer.

TOY TEST:

Obtain a 55-gallon box of Legos. (If Legos are not available, you may substitute roofing tacks or broken bottles.) Have a friend spread them all over the house. Put on a blindfold. Try to walk to the bathroom or kitchen. Do not scream (this could wake a child at night).

GROCERY STORE TEST:

Borrow one or two small animals (goats are best) and take them with you as you shop at the grocery store. Always keep them in sight and pay for anything they eat or damage.

DRESSING TEST:

Obtain one large, unhappy, live octopus. Stuff into a small net bag making sure that all arms stay inside.

FEEDING TEST:

Obtain a large plastic milk jug. Fill halfway with water. Suspend from the ceiling with a stout cord. Start the jug swinging. Try to insert spoonfuls of soggy cereal (such as Fruit Loops or Cheerios) into the mouth of the jug while pretending to be an airplane. Now dump the contents of the jug on the floor.

NIGHT TEST:

Prepare by obtaining a small cloth bag and fill it with 8 to 12 pounds of sand. Soak it thoroughly in water. At 8:00 PM begin to waltz and hum with the bag until 9:00 PM. Lay down your bag and set your alarm for 10:00 PM. Get up, pick up your bag, and sing every song you have ever heard. Make up about a dozen more and sing these too until 4:00 AM. Set alarm for 5:00 AM. Get up and make breakfast. Keep this up for five years. Look cheerful.

PHYSICAL TEST (WOMEN)

Obtain a large beanbag chair and attach it to the front of your clothes. Leave it there for 9 months. Now remove 10% of the beans.

PHYSICAL TEST (MEN):

Go to the nearest drug store. Set your wallet on the counter. Ask the clerk to help himself. Now proceed to the nearest food store. Go to the head office and arrange for your paycheck to be directly deposited to the store. Purchase a newspaper. Go home and read it quietly for the last time.

FINAL ASSIGNMENT:

Find a couple who already have a small child. Lecture them on how they can improve their discipline, patience, tolerance, toilet training, and child's table manners. Suggest many ways they can improve. Emphasize to them that they should never allow their children to run riot. Enjoy this experience. It will be the last time you will have all the answers.

So you think you can dance??

I usually wait for my bus home at a bus stop near the Youth park place at somerset. Most of the time, I get to see dance groups practising on the stage in the evening and some other people playing with their skate boards. And I start to think back on those times when I was so in love with dancing. Hm, I actually said I was... but I think I still am in love with dancing. Hip Hop, Funk, Modern, Jazz, Salsa... I really miss those times when I'll sweat it out practising and rehearsing for endless hours into the night, JUST for a 3 to 5 minute performance.

I knew I wanted to dance since Sec one.. I tried out for our red house cheerleading team (but didn't get in until my second year). We won the cheer routine competition that year and it was, perhaps, one of my proudest moments in st nicks. Rehearsing late into the week nights and even coming back school on weekends, going through the routine again and again and again and getting so stressed out as the Big day arrives and getting so upset that other houses have similar dance steps (though I never really understood this part. I mean, yeah, the routine should look nice with good moves, but you'll also need good team spirit and attitude to bring out the vitality in the routine itself...) but yeah, that's cheerleaders and cheerleading..... it's the same everywhere.

Didn't continue my dancing stuff in JC cos I thought I wanted to be a slacker. So, no cheerleading, no major performances and lotsa skipping school. But, I still did some dancing... Lin & I came out with some choreography for a teachers' day item but apparently the auditioning teachers didn't like the dance cos it was kinda sexy and so, it didn't get pass the censor board. I remember practising at this place near the grand staircase landing & the squash court (not the best place to do dance cos it was kinda dark, with no mirrors) Then, our class did an item for national day and we had to do a dance item as well, and it was a safe, conventional dance which would have been rated Parents Guidance-Not Necessary.

So my "dancing career" took another turn when I went to NTU. Modern Jazz had the Dancetitude performance at Nanyang Audi, Hall One had its own dance group, then its cheerleading team (which we were the champions in my year 2 as well) and we even took lessons at this dance studio somewhere near Laupasat. It was all good fun.

And last evening, as I sat alone at the bus stop, I asked myself if I'd ever be able to do all these again. To join a dance group and commit my time and energy, to ignite the weak dancing flame burning in my heart. I know I yearn to go back to dancing again, to feel the beats of the music and feel my body move along with each coordinated and synchronised move, to feel that I belong to a group with a common passion. Actually, I've been thinking of this for the past few months, and up til today, I'm still just thinking of it....

sunday night at holland v

I haven't been to HV for some time..and since i was feeling very very tired after a week of hard work and long hours in the office, mr goh suggested we go and try the HV katong laksa later in the night.

HV is one of my favourite hang outs since JC. Every corner I turn reminds me of a moment in my teenage years (haha). The revealation of this special place started when I moved to my Clementi home slightly before my "O" Levels.

At 16, i studied for my Os at either BK, KFC, or Starbucks. I love Starbucks the most, esp with the scent of coffee but the lights are pretty dim and if you sit outside, people smoke.

Come JC 1 and 2, my classmates and I would skip lessons and just go HV for some ice-cream. We still mug at BK, KFC, Delifrance or starbucks. Sweeties also gather once in a while there, at the ice cream parlour.

After A levels and into uni, met Lin at HV before she flew off to UK. Marc was also there and we tried out the ipoh hor fun next to the katong laksa.

Uni yr one, first date with mr. goh at NYDC.

Bought the crocs slippers for chongmeng at HV shopping centre last year.

and this year, back in HV to have katong laksa and chocolate fondue. and the fondue was huge! we were the only two people sharing the fondue. There was a family of 5 (parents and 3 little boys) who ordered fondue, then a family of 4, then a family of 4 again (and i swear the son looks like he joined singapore idol but didn't get in; or i've seen him somewhere before) and yes, we were the 1st to order but the last to leave cos we took so long to finish everything!

Interestingly, the topic of the night was on how many children we'd like to have. (and mr goh thinks god may be sending us a message when so many families came in to have fondue) I'd like to have 2 but he wants a bundle of 3. Seeing the family with 3 boys really made me think of having my own kids, how i'll bring them to have chocolate fondue and ice cream and have them smear chocolate all over their faces. Seeing their eager looks when the fondue arrive on the table but sitting there ever so obediently before the mother says okay, we can start. They have really cute boys! Then the 2 families of 4 had one boy one girl, not quite the fun bunch but still paints a happy family pic(and interestingly, these families arrived in increasing order of age). So I basically took a glimpse of what my possible future could be like that night.

There's still lotsa construction work going on around HV, a lot more new F&B places and the HV food centre upgrading is finished as well, but some things about HV never change. the way it brings back memories of good times spent makes me want to go back there again and again.

The ways we move..

Today, I want to talk about modes of transportation.

I missed 4 buses in a row yesterday. See, I can either take 106 near my place, or walk to the interchange to take 7 to work. When I was nearing the 106 bus stop, 106 left. So I thought, better catch 7 if not I’ll be late for work. When I was on my way to the interchange, I saw 7 zoomed past me and I was caught at the traffic light junction. When I finally reached the interchange, a 7 was leaving. I ran for my life but it still left me (drowned in perspiration). And I had to wait for another 12 minutes before the next one came along. And another 106 would have left the previous bus stop as well.

When it did finally come along, I looked at my watch and gave the bus uncle a very annoyed look. And I was thinking, if only I have my own means of transport, then I wouldn’t have to go through all these. So, I’m determined to sign up for my basic theory some time soon and save enough money to get a car or something. But… along the way to work, I saw this car that crashed into a tree. And I start to have doubts again, especially since I have no direction sense and need a second or two to tell my left from right.

At work, my colleague told me there is a hello kitty airplane(http://evakitty.evaair.com/index.htm) filled with all kinds of hello kitty merchandise and even have hello kitties pasted on the airplane! And the in flight meals….you guessed it, hello kitty as well! It’s really very cute. Although I’m not a hello kitty fan, I would really love to be in that plane sometime. KAWAII ne! and speaking of planes, I once wanted to be a pilot (but I’m too short) and then an air stewardess (but I didn’t make the mark). So my adventure in the sky had to call quits until I found this job, which allowed me to travel occasionally. But that looks likely to end soon as we’re expecting a new china colleague.

Oh well, can only look forward to the blading session on Sunday! Feel the sea breeze on my face, feel the sun infuse vitamin D onto my skin, feel the (un)smoothness of each glide and count the number of calories burning, as I go “left, right, left, right, left, right….”

Confessions.....

Tommy goes into a confessional box and says, "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. I have been with a loose woman."

The Priest says, "Is that you, Tommy?"

"Yes, Father, it is I."

"Who was the woman you were with?"

"I cannot tell you, for I do not wish to sully her reputation."

The priest asks, "Was it Brenda OMalley?"

No, Father."

"Was it Fiona MacDonald?"

"No, Father."

"Was it Ann Brown?"

"No, Father, I cannot tell you."

The priest says, "I admire your perseverance but you must atone foryour sins. Your penance will be five Our Fathers and four Hail Marys."

Tommy goes back to his pew and his buddy Sean slides over and asks,"What happened?"

Tommy replies, "I got five Our Fathers, four Hail Marys and three good leads"

Patience...

A man observed a woman in the grocery store with a three-year-old girl in her basket. As they passed the cookie section, the little girl asked for cookies and her mother told her no. The little girl immediately began to whine and fuss, and the mother said quietly, "Now Monica, we just have half of the aisles left to go through -- don't be upset. It won't be long."
Soon, they came to the candy aisle and the little girl began to shout for candy. When told she couldn't have any, she began to cry. The mother said softly, "There, there, Monica, don't cry -- only two more aisles to go and then we'll be checking out."

When they got to the checkout stand, the little girls immediately began to clamor for gum and burst into a terrible tantrum upon discovering there'd be no gum purchased. The mother patiently said, "Monica, we'll be through this checkout stand in five minutes and then you can go home and have a nice nap."

The man followed them out to the parking lot and stopped the woman to compliment her. "I couldn't help noticing how patient you were with little Monica," he began.

The mother sighed and replied, "Oh, no. I'm Monica -- my little girl's name is Tammy."

>>>> I hope this will not happen to me man. I think I’ll probably stuff something into her mouth to stop her from being a nuisance. Or buy a muzzle for her and put her on a leash and threaten to whip her if she makes so much noise.

I always know there is this violent streak in me. Keke

Enjoy the honeymoon....

News from TOday:

"A study in London has found that the honeymoon period for newly weds, before the arrival of children, is the happiest time of married life. After that, the magic soon fades.

But romantics can take comfort that, on average, every successful marriage benefits from a strong honeymoon effect, lasting approximately a year. "

Only lasts for one year?!?! that's like so depressing!

Confessions of 1 unmarried woman

I was very much looking forward to Confessions of 300 unmarried men. Firstly, coz I haven’t watched a (good) play in a long time. Secondly, I’ve watched Confessions of 3 unmarried women some 2 years ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The men version is supposed to be the part 2 of the women. Lastly, it solves the problem of what to do on valentine’s day.
The play turned out to be okay. It’s funny but I got lost somewhere in the middle. This time, instead of a full plot like confessions women, it’s a string of short plays by 4 different playwrights and it gets really confusing when they end abruptly at one point and moves on to the next part. There’s even this kara-oke part where the 3 men take turns to lip-sync love songs. No doubt it is entertaining but lip-syncing love songs?? I guess I was expecting more.
The show opened with a teaser. “As we are about to start the show, please kindly switch off your mobile phones or turn it to vibrating mode as long as it does not affect the person sitting next to you.” something like that. Hurhur. Yah, that was the kind of humour the show had.

That aside, it does have funny anecdotes about why men chooses to remain single. Let me try to recall some of it…

1)Your dog is barking outside the door. Your wife is shouting outside the door. Who do you let in? The dog of course, at least the dog will shut up once you let it in.
2)My wife complained that there are too many electric gadgets in the kitchen that there’s no place for her to sit. So, I got her an electric chair.
3)The reason why I am unmarried is because, every morning I look into the mirror, I can’t even stand living with myself!

There were a lot more funnier ones but I can’t remember now.. It’s the kind of tickling humour. Laugh and forget.
So I asked mr. Goh what will be his reason for staying unmarried. Smart chap says none of those mentioned in the show applies.

The show did explore the topic about missing the “right” bus, but the analogy was that of a sushi conveyor belt. Disgusting thing they mentioned is, what happens when you pick a dish and it’s one that someone else has fingered. (I’m glad we didn’t have sushi for dinner that night)

So yep, a not-too-bad play for some vday entertainment I guess. Somehow, as the years move on, vday celebration is not that significant afterall. No candlelight dinner, no vday cards, no flowers for me this year and I’m not complaining. I read an article in Today and the writer (who worked as a florist) wrote that she had a customer who ordered two bouquets of flowers. One for his wife and one for his mistress. Another story is that of a girl overseas who ordered a box of chocolates online to be delivered to her bf here. When the delivery person reached the place, she saw that the table was set for two for a candlelight dinner. Yah, kinda sad.
So, what’s your valentine’s package? Hope it’s none of the above.

Posted by Picasa This is my favourite pic of the fireworks we released that night.

My love affair with fireworks display...

My love affair with fireworks had been amazing the past few months. Witnessing the national day fireworks lighting the sky from the four corners of Singapore on the balcony of Swissotel brought along a brand new experience of fireworks viewing. (To be exact, just 3 corners since we can’t see the displays at the back) Given the bad direction sense I have, it took me a while to figure out where the fireworks were coming from (yishun, tampines, marina). Then there was the Fireworks festival a few days after NDP.

And then I got the chance to light my own fireworks at the kelong during xmas. The fireworks powder is actually stored in this phallic looking “tube” with a long wooden stick to prop the “tube” upon shooting. We got the medium-sized fireworks which cost about S$10 per tube; all for that ten seconds of wows and oohs and ahs and oh my gods. The lighting up part is quite exciting, almost like lighting a bomb and then you’ll have to run off to safety after you lit it. We weren’t allowed to light the tubes when planes are flying by (the kelong is pretty near an airport). But can you imagine sitting by the window and seeing the sprouts of light and colour appear right before your eyes/reflected from the windows?? How cool is that. You may never ever get closer to fireworks than that.

But I was wrong, the New Year’s eve fireworks at the esplanade were even more bombastic. A full ten minute of fireworks display. They appear right before your eyes and draw you so much closer to them, as if twirling you into their vortex. Spell-bound. And then there was the CNY fireworks at esplanade too, for all the 15 days of cny. Singaporeans are really spoilt with the amount of fireworks over the past 2 months. Then again, I guess it’ll boost our tourism industry. (I was surrounded by Malaysians, Indians, Chinese and a few hongkong pp)

I don’t know when I first started to fall in love with fireworks display. The awe and fascination with something so beautiful but yet so short-lived (and expensive). You’d be kept in anticipation before the display begins and be surprised once in a while with the occasional outbursts. And you never know when the display will end but you’d wish it goes on forever. But I guess the best part of all is to watch it with someone you’d want to spend forever with.

I almost lost this love relationship with fireworks some time back; when I felt it’s such a pain to squeeze among thousands sticky and sweaty persons and I’m losing the effort to catch it. Plus, fireworks display got tired and there weren’t any for me to catch. It takes two to tango, really. To want to keep things together, to dance in sync. I just wish the music will not stop playing and we’ll still be able to catch fireworks display again next year.

It's been a while....

it's been a long long while since i wrote anything. wonder if anyone still stops by to take a look. (gimme a shout out if you do).

Anyway, to sum up how I have been for the past few months.. i'd say EXCITING (starting with the Taiwan work/trip and typhoon-August) and then HOMEY (spent more time with family and mr goh's family-September) and then October was quite a MESS (fell sick and kinda fell into some kinda depression combined with neurotic mood and sleep at 10pm habit) and now, November started on a good note with public holidays and cooking/baking/laughing/hip-cuppping at gracia's (Thank you gracia and mum for hosting us!).

We're almost reaching the end of the year again. Christmas decors are already up along orchard road and in the shopping malls. Seems like only yesterday when my dad flew back from Australia and spent christmas with us....

Fullerton Hotel stay :)

The long awaited fullerton hotel stay is finally here!!! *courtesy of miss poon, of course* the sweeties are really a lucky bunch. instead of chalets, we stay-over in hotels and become tai-tais for the weekend. feels great to be with the girls again. no matter how busy everyone is, we'll all make our best efforts to be there. zee suggested that we do something out of the ordinary.....so here's a low down on what we did during the stay.....

checked in in the afternoon, lazed on the luxurious bed! gaped at the huge bathroom and tall ceiling! and made ourselves totally comfortable. so comfortable that mich and miss poon kept zao-geng-ing. but that was alright, we had a good laugh. :) so when everyone is gathered, we decided to be shopping queens for the day and do some shopping since it's the great sg sale season! me and huiru have been wanting to get some really nice shrugs! and zee has got one which does not look "ah-ma-ish" and is pretty nice! (but in the end, me and huiru still didn't see any we like). mich got some nice and comfortable stuff from la senza though. I was quite amused by the fluffy pink/black thing in store.

then....steamboat buffet at joaqium restaurant! ate all we can... and in the midst of our dinner....guess who arrived into the suntec convention centre?? Senior Minister GOH CHOK TONG! and his entourage. other VIPs and all the hunky chunky bodyguards. (think huiru associates them with dogs) so the out of the ordinary thing would be to stand up and applause when SM goh walked by or salute him or something... heh, but we didn't. But we did ate quite alot during the buffet. esp the cakes! and desserts! sweeties all have sweet tooth.

the conversation during dinner was wedding wedding wedding. and wedding themes. miss poon happily said that her wedding song would be the thong song since it's her fav song at the moment. *raise eyebrow* and we talked about what are the things to look out for during weddings and how we will all be the bridesmaid and tekan the bride groom and how everything should be planned perfectly since it is going to be once-in-a-lifetime thing and sometime amidst all the discussion, we got a bit teary eyed. i think we will definitely need water proof mascara on the wedding night.

and we went to the games place again!! and pictionary gets even more hilarious everytime we played it. yun drew an animal who somehow resembled a cross between a cattle and some worm or something and we still managed to guess that she was drawing a bull! and she drew something like a dome and zee could tell that it was an igloo and zee drew some stick man with long neck and yun could tell it was the hunch back of notre dome!! amazing how brain waves connect. we should really have kept our drawings. and tried another game huiru introduced too... TABOO! hah this one also very funny. esp for the verbs. and yun was hilarious as she improvise and came up with actions and sounds that just made us laugh and laugh and laugh.

the next morning, went swimming in the pool. *mich, pls upload the photos!* i realise i can hardly swim without my goggles and i kinda swam in a zig zag fashion, from one corner of the pool to the diagonally opposite corner. sheesh. well, we've decided that the next gathering would be cycling/blading at east coast! and dinner at the east coast hawker centre with its great food!

til then!

Oasis Board Games! Pictionary!

Pictionary is a damn nice/fun/exciting game to play. Met up the girls to have dinner at liang seah zi char... yun just came back from europe nt long ago and gggoh came back from Philippines too (no, she is not a maid.) she was there on a mission trip, and came back with some pounds shed. mr goh suggests that i go for such trips too, for all the wrong reasons. heh, but that made me think of those days spent in Karimun, Indonesia... where i was there for a week, painting the schools, teaching the students english, telling them everything about Singapore, went trekking and crawling into bat caves (which made me realise that i am really claustrophobic) and so on and so on...

anyway, back to the pictionary game. mich, ru and fen were in one team, me, gggoh and yun another. and so the battle begins! Everyone is geared up to win the game. Pens ready, thinking caps put on and get set....go! we screamed, banged the tables, made a hell lot of noise... and it's interesting to see how different people think differently...

like...for the same thing that we are supposed to draw... there are soooo many different ways you can do it and soooo many different things that your team mates can guess (however inaccurate...) and i was supposed to draw an ice chest. so i drew an ice cube... then i drew a treasure chest like box....but not very effective...so i drew a macho chest. how would you have drawn it?

go try pictionary some day... :)

Batman Begins

Batman begins is really a nice show... esp when batman holds quite some significance for me and mr goh. and christian bale looks great in the batsuit! and this show is definitely 100 times better than mr and mrs smith (and their super over exaggerated invincible action moves, which i must say is quite badly choreographed esp the final shooting scene which made me want to stand up and shoot them dead instead).

went to emerald orchard food court for dinner. well, mr goh ate but i watched. and he had soem ridiculously priced bak kut teh $5! for a bowl of rice and 3 bak kuts. and he made me take a pic of his ridiculous bak kut teh....

went back office to collect stuff from the traffic counters.. the office is like a second home to me now... and i'm pretty glad it's in town...coz i get to meet people i know (sometimes), spoilt for choice when it comes to lunch time, and get to see what's happening in orchard road... (they put up fantastic 4 figures at the traffic junction at Heeren/Mandarin Hotel/Singapore Visitors' Centre/California Fitness over night! so I was quite happy that morning coz it's something colourful to add to my day in office.

overall, it's been a nice weekend... looking forward to the next....

Bumping into one another....

When i was on my way to work from home this morning, i waved to a stranger and smiled at him. No, i wasn't out of my mind.... i think i was more like half awake and thought he resembled a friend who stays near my place... so i gave him a "firm" wave and a bright smile. Only when i was like 5 steps away from him then i realised that it's a case of mistaken identity. so Paisay. Heng he was on the phone. He actually looked behind himself to make sure that i was waving at him n not some other chap. To make things worse, there was only traffic behind him and i could not pretend i was waving to someone behind him.... :(

I bumped into a primary school friend some nights ago. we used to be neighbours when we were still primary school girls. We'll go to school together, have lunch together, play hopscotch, zero point together, loiter ard after school together and go home together. It was nice seeing her after so long and finding out that she is doing well and all. pity we weren't as close as before.

then last night, bumped into another friend, miss xie. well, actually, i bumped(literally) into mr goh when miss xie enthusiastically called my name and i had the shock of my life and blanked out for a milisecond and bumped into mr goh. pleasant surprise.... :)

So i say... it's really nice to bump into friends when you're out. esp friends who hold a dear place in your heart.

Nolstagia

was at Holland V just now...made me realise how long i haven't been there. got some new cafes there which look really nice (must go there again sometime, for some relaxing moments) and there was still the old holland village shopping centre. I used to frequent HV a lot when i was in NJ. kinda like a studying place for me since it was rather near my house...my favourite hunt was starbucks. the smell of coffee keeps me awake and the staff don't really bother you.

was looking for a place to lunch, so went into delifrance and saw groups of acjc students studying there, preparing for their A levels. man.. A levels was like 4 yrs ago for myself!! i feel old.. and i saw the familiar TYS from redspot and what not. and i thought about the times i had to do those stuff and agonize over them. and i thought about my study kakis too.

and i just sat there for the afternoon thinking of all the times i spent at HV. sweet.

Woman at work

That's me at workdesk. time was probably 745pm and it was a saturday. was alone in the office coz my colleague has got a gathering to attend to and one of my surveyors worked an extra half hour so i gotta wait for her. The table was pretty neat when i first started working....but somehow or rather, it's very messy now. I shall keep a mental note to keep everything clean and neat.

watching american idol(repeat) in mr goh's room now. i must say carrie has power lungs but she sounds really strained and off key some times. thought bo did better. but oh well. she won. and what's with the dawg man?

tired...tmr still gotta work man... and big boss is back from tokyo! no more eating snake...

Happening saturday

It was quite a happening saturday and i'm back in the office today on a sunday to meet the surveyors and pass them stuff. anyway, last night was quite fun filled. finished work at 8 and went liang seah zi char to have dinner with mr goh since we were both very hungry and didn't want to go anywhere far. so there goes the planned romantic dinner for the night. shopped around bugis after that but didn't manage to get anything. we were arguing over what kind of office wear is appropriate to buy for work. he insists i shld get like shirts but i told him that don't have to be so formal and can get some nice blouses instead. so, i've decided to do my own shopping today without him. :)

met Hianzee at hotel intercontinental! and the funny thing was, we were both there to use the hotel toilet. *grins* It's nice bumping into friends when you're out. coz i feel like, there's some kind of fate thing involved, if you know what i mean. not those arranged kind of outing, but just there and then we meet and have a pleasant surprise. ;) serendipity.

went to geylang to have supper after that with jem, eric, mw and ty. was rather concussed then but felt that i shouldn't waste my saturday away. Not that i enjoyed the company very much or that i was hungry but most importantly, coz i want to spend time with mr goh.

I guess when you're working, you'll really start to prioritise and decide how to put ur free time to the best use.

Lesson number 2.

The Great Singapore Sale

It's been a hectic week for me. Thought i was going to have a 4 day work 1st initially but surprise surprise, I have to work over the weekend too coz of the Sg Sale proj my company is doing for STB. not that I am complaining. I really enjoy what i am doing right now... and i've yet to get sick of it. managing the proj has been fun so far. I get to visit most of the shopping malls in sg and i know which shops are having the most discounts and so on and so forth. Done some window shopping too and probably will go and do some real shopping later before the temp workers get back to the office.

so now, i'm just chilling out in the office. listening to the music which karsten has in his ipod. Real chill out songs. the room seemed colder when he started playing them and i just felt like having a cup of hot cocoa to go along.

finally met up with mr goh after a hectic week. but i did the most stupid thing. See, he offered to fetch me to work today coz he said he'll be going back to hall to collect some stuff and will drop by to bring me to work and go fix the comp after that. Happened that he woke up late and could only pick me up to work. and i have to be in the office by 12pm coz the temp workers will be coming by to collect their materials. so when mr goh reached my place at 11 40, i screamed at him. Well, not exactly scream...but my tone was obviously not very nice. and i regretted the moment i said that. we haven't met for a week and that is the first thing i have to do to him. So, mr goh... i'm really sorry for screaming at you this morning. I guess i was pressed for time coz i thought the people will come in on time. but surprise surprise, they were late as usual. so heck, i'd rather show more care and concern towards people i love than towards my work.

First lesson learnt from working. time to do some shopping now. :)

Revenge is sweet

Papa roach attacked me and my mother this morning while we were having breakfast in the coffee shop. I screamed so loudly that the hdb dwellers might have mistaken that for a fire alarm. :) grins. no wonder revenge is sweet. papa roach must be glad that he made a fool out of me.

will be starting my first day of work tmr. hopefully everything goes well. the lower right part of my eye has been twitching for the past 3 days. anyone can tell me what that means?

do u believe in karma?

i've always believed in karma. what goes around comes around. If you treat people nice, other people will treat u nice. if you don't treat people nice, u'd probably meet your match someday. but who can be sure that it's all due to karma and not just a thing about meeting the wrong people and having a lousy day? some people are nice to everyone, have done nothing wrong, never sha ren fang huo and yet they too have their worst days. not to mention those who have done evil and still live. yeah...you get my point. so how many people can really prove that karma exists?

I proudly exclaim that i can.

this morning, i killed a baby cockroach the first thing in the morning when i went to brush my teeth. I was feeling proud of it since i've always feared such creepy crawlies and have never ever attempted to kill them myself. But given this morning's circumstances, I had no choice but to kill the baby cockroach. if not, it will grow into a big cockcroach and come back to huant me again. so, again, i felt proud of myself to overcome my fear. machiam like those participants in Fear Factor.

about half an hour ago, i got my retribution. Apparently, Mama cockcroach found out that i murdered baby cockcroach and plotted to kill me by tonight. So, it waited until mr goh left the room for dinner, when i was alone in the room, when the door was conveniently open, when i was unarmed, unaware and totally not prepared for the attack that it was about to launch on me. THEN it spreaded its horrifying wings and, like a kamikaze pilot, flew at high speed towards my face. I truly believe that if it was to land on my face at that instant, i would really be dead. Fortunately, (i believe i have done some good deeds too) I heard the flapping of its wings (yes, it was that loud) and in a milisecond, i jumped out of the sofa and ran towards the edge of the room. The room is not very big, so i was still in close proximity with the avenger. I screamed, naturally. and to those people who were unfortunate to hear my screams, i apologise.

so with the killer instinct in me, i decided to kill the Mama cockcroach too. not so easy as i thought. and it cleverly went into hiding, traumatising me for another 30 minutes or more before mr goh came to the rescue and found its hiding place. During the period when i was alone, i felt really alone, helpless and i thought of baby cockcroach.

now, i'm thinking of mama cockcroach and brave mr goh. I just hope karma is not all that true all the time.

what does your birthday mean?

http://www.blogthings.com/whatdoesyourbirthdatemeanquiz
try this...recommended by huiru. quite accurate for me. haha

Your Birthdate: March 30
Your birthday on the 30th day of the month shows individual self-expression is necessary for your happiness. You tend to have a good way of expressing yourself with words, certainly in a manner that is clear and understandable. You have a good chance of success in fields requiring skill with words. You can be very dramatic in your presentation and you may be a good actor or a natural mimic. You have a vivid imagination that can assist you in becoming a good writer or story-teller. Strong in your opinions, you always tend to think you are on the right side of an issue. There may be a tendency to scatter your energies and have a lot of loose ends in your work. humans eat everything and anything....

went to chinatown to have tian ji zhou (aka frog's leg porridge) over the weekend. I think the location is extremely strategic. directly opposite CK departmental store which allows the customers to have a cool breeze of air-conditioning before going to the hot, steamy coffeeshop. and it's located at a busy junction, so the people walking by never stops. they basically flood the area every minute. :)

before we went there, we were actually at bugis and i had my first bite of the rotiboy bun. The magic of a single, soft, crispy, hot bun. hm...yummy! and my sandals broke coz mr. goh ALWAYS step on my feet. anyways, i had to buy a pair of sandals on the spot and went x:odus to get a pair of pretty slippers! it's called trina sandals or something...yah... x:odus actually names its different series of sandals....actually wanted to get a pair of flip flops with a dragonfly on it..looks really pretty but impractical. :( confirm the dragonfly will drop out. still remembered the starfish sandals the sweetie girls got me for my birthday. think i'm a sucker for pretty sandals! x:odus has really preeeetty shoes... check it out.

then with my new sandals....we walked. and walked. and walked. from bugis...to arab street...to bras basah (where we took a short break) to city hall...to boat quay ....and finally...somehow, we reached chinatown. phew. practising for the big walk (competitive category) this weekend.

just kidding...... :)

food connoisseur...hm...delicious! and special thanks to the photographer who made the food (and myself) look good too. on the other hand, i must admit my photography skills are quite lousy. (look at picture below)

Yeah...this is the one which i took. no nicely placed food, no posing for the camera, no nothing. But do check out the poster in the background. *grins*

amos the famous who vacuumed the poor hamster

damsel in distress

it's been a while... had quite a packed weekend. eventful i guess. first was the sweeties meeting which i mentioned. then was the sia interview the next day. here's a lowdown about what happened on saturday morning...

mr goh volunteered to chauffeur me to changi sia training centre. really appreciate that, gave me moral support too! and the interview was at a ghostly hour of 0840, haven't woke up before the sun does for such a long time! so there i was, together with like hundred plus other girls, starry eyed, all hoping for a chance to be one of the icons of singapore. machiam like american idols, seriously.

so we were divided into groups of ten for the first round of the interview. made a few friends and one of them was a st nicks cum NJ cum NTU senior! (whom i have nvr seen b4, vanessa's batch) the world is really small. she was really nice, and this was her second time for the interview (she got through 2nd round btw). so 1st round.... i was the first to be asked to give a brief intro about myself. i fumbled, mumbled and probably made a mess. those who spoke after me were detailed, confident and obviously so much better prepared than me. so i thought, that's it... 1st round will kenna kick out already.

10 min later, a man came into the room and said, " only two of you are selected in this group. for those whose name are not called, thank you for coming. the two selected pls follow me to another room." TWO! what are my chances... but i was lucky enough to be given a second chance! :) so i was determined to do much better for the one to one interview later. i was determined to speak confidently and not fumble. but i was disappointed. i guess even more so since i was not given the reason why i wasn't chosen. i thought i performed better at the second interview but obviously not good enough. so for the entire day, i felt inadequate. my ego was thoroughly trashed and i kept wondering what was wrong with myself.

thanks to all my friends who made me feel special again. :) i think i should be happy that i managed to get to the second round too. shows that at least i look somehow like a probable SIA girl. i think i will try again after i've gained some working experience. perhaps i'd be better prepared and equipped for it.

anyways, went out to town after that. met up with the hall people. dinner at marches. went to kbox lounge to chill out. quite a nice place leh. got live band there singing soothing chinese/eng pop. got espn showing also (good for guys who are bored by the male singers) and also a small pool table. those which u dong two 1 dollar coins inside one (good for amatuer players like me). and watched Kingdom of Heaven. quite a boring show, though controversial subject.

Then came mothers' day. had a good time with mum, bro, sis and the kids. we found out that amos vacuumed his hamster the very same day! poor hamster! axel(the elder bro) was vacuuming the floor and when he was done, he wanted to go turn off the main power. Then, famous amos went to vacuum the hamster. i believe he must be very amused when he saw the hamster being sucked towards the tube and i am sure he never meant to suck it in. but it did went in. So...the two boys were traumatised and cried. and my sis scolded them too. we had a good laugh over it. I guess me and my brother have to be blamed somehow coz whenever they stayed over and we vacuumed the floor, we would try to suck their skin also. and it was really amusing.... heh.

when i was small... i aspired to be a sia girl and my mum bought me the chinatown kebaya

chomp chomp chomp

I had a lovely evening. :) met up with the sweeties for dinner at chomp chomp to celebrate mich's and zee's bday! the food was nice! and i actually finished a gigantic jug of sugar cane juice! it was really gigantic man....machiam those jugs of alcohol sold in clubs. i have no idea why i was so thirsty too. then went to brownbox for lotsa coffee and cakes. totally sinful but blissful at the same time.

and we've decided to meet up more regularly! yeah! and the long awaited hotel stay is finally going to be realised soon. it's amazing how we always nvr run out of topics to talk about during sweeties outings. an overnight stay would be excellent for pillow talk! can't wait....

sweeties, pls upload the pictures soon!!

Food Glorious Food!

A pleasant surprise

received a belated birthday gift from chongmeng today. Lovely lovely mini ipod cover! (pictures below) was exactly the one i saw on the apple website but not sold in singapore one. so chongmeng cleverly asked jiayong to buy for him in the states and bring it back to sg since jiayong was coming back. chongmeng is so cong ming! :)

Thanks man...now mini greenie has both clothes to wear and food to eat. *grins* but i got worried that the lovely cover will get dirtied. heh. nonetheless, that made my day.

it was a great day too since i met up with angel hr to shop around. met some friends and met hz with ys too! 1st time bumping into them in town.... had so much fun with hr looking at clothes, stuff and people. and the last resort involving gggoh. heh. in the end, the bebe top looks funny. think uk people must be very lengthy coz all their clothes are damn long! topshop tank tops also pretty long...mango too... but asians, like me esp, have short torsos! (not that we have long legs too....) in any case.....saw a really nice black dress at zara!! off shoulder dress, have been wanting to get a off shoulder top for the longest of time. but costs 60 bucks. SO.... if i get through this saturday's interview, i'm going back to zara. *Grins*

bought a pencil skirt too. pretty! and comes along with 2 satin belts (one white and one cream coloured) though not very distinguishable. time to revamp my wardrobe to include more working wear. :)

can't wait to meet the sweeties tmr.

and the day after...

fitting snugly in my palm ;)

tadaaaa! mini greenie in pink leather coat! song playing: jerk it out.

the lovely belkin cover!

(tiny words at the side of the picture)
Form-fit design: ensures durability and exact fit with genuine leather construction

Clear PVC Window: keeps your ipod protected and accessible at all times

Wrist Lanyard: carry your ipod mini wherever u go

Small Storage Pocket: easily holds receipts, notes or driver license

Easy Access Ports: Let you power and enjoy ur ipod mini on the go

evaluation/rating: excellent! lurrrrve it! and it's not sold in sg! didn't mind the colour clash coz now i have the best of both worlds. ;)

frustration...

i think i can nvr come to terms with my bf clubbing with his friends.

i'm such a petty woman. so typically irrational. always full of angst. Surprisingly, only when the above mentioned activity takes place, well, most of the time at least. It's so frustrating. for the few hours of that night, i won't be able to concentrate on anything. i'd do things to occupy my mind. (read: be couch potato, paint my nails, cut my split ends and the like) it's as if the angel and devil in me decides to bicker for endless hours.

the angel saying, "oh....it's just a guy's nights out. nothing wrong with that, i have my fair share of sweeties outing too. i trust he won't do anything silly that will make him regret for LIFE(okay...this sounds like the devil in the angel, vicious)"

"BUT," devil rebuts,"sweeties outings dun involve booze (lotsa it), smoke (enough to shorten your life by a week), and ogling at the female species (and/or the male) AND reaching home in the wee hours of the morning. WASTED.

so why can't guys have normal outings? why is it that when they meet, it must definitely involve booze? my brother is like that too. he likes to go cheong, drink beer, stout, vodka and the list goes on. my mum is worried but i told her not to be. (how ironic, considering the way i am behaving now) every guy his age does that. *ting ting!* Ah...now i know when the clubbing habit begins... when boys were only free during the weekends and all they could think of is to hit the clubs. dirty habits die hard.

The only time i enjoyed myself when clubbing with mr goh was when we 1st got to know each other (go figure). the rest of the times were just bad. i was inhaling the smoke while he was drowning in booze. and i wasn't allowed to drink coz apparently i can hold my breath better than the liquor.

sigh...guess i will be better off by being indifferent.

venus will never understand mars.

Bag of potatoes

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One day, a student asked his Master, " Sir, it is difficult to forgive and forget those who have wronged me, because they keep coming back to huant me." The master said to the student, "Whenever you cannot forget an incident that someone has hurt you before, you put a potato into ur haversack."The student agreed affirmatively.

3 months later, his load of potatoes got heavier and heavier. He got more frustrated and tired. Eventually, he even hurt his back. He asked the master again, "What can i learn from carrying all these potatoes? Now i'm no different from a dead man. I'll never forgive what u have made me done" With that, another potato was added and he broke his neck and died.

"You stupid fool." the master thought to himself.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, i'm sure all my friends are all quick enough to catch that. :)

in case some didn't, the moral of the story was that when you are able to leave everything behind and move forward, you will not be burdened by the past. well, more specifically, the not-so-welcomed past.

I've moved back home. :) and i'm glad that i've managed to throw away things which i have kept til now. things i should have thrown earlier since they don't matter now. the memories are still there, though not very vivid... but the physical stuff are gone. together with the emotional burden i guess.

and talk about forgive and forget... i think most pp forgive...but nvr forget. it may not be a bad thing afterall. not forgetting is not the same as bearing a grudge. sometimes, the memory is just there. cached in the mind. waiting to be uncovered some day. but somehow for me...i seem to forget quite a lot of stuff. i read a letter which hr wrote me while unpacking the stuff at home... there she mentioned about an incident after prelims (which i really do not remember, so no worries, hr!) Another one was when i found the "yoke" list after like 4 yrs! kept between pages of a book. point is... i'm scared that i'm forgetting too many things. things which are important to me and have definitely left a deep impression in my mind before. i think i live and i forget sometimes.

so, conclusion is, i'm going to stay around people who are important to me, to be there for them, there with them. in that case, i can't possibly forget right? i know it sounds very weird and probably doesn't make sense. should probably go to bed now and hopefully, i won't forget what's happened today.
